Default TV programme tonight

BBC 2, 8.30 tonight, Grow Your Own.
Carol Klein attempts to prove anyone can grow organic vegetables at home.
We know we can - but it must be worth a watch.

From what I've read in the pre programme blurb, this could turn out to be a very enjoyable and informative show - we wait with baited thingys as Nick would say !

Saw a trailer last night - I think she's going to be talking mostly about spuds tonight but could be wrong. Looked very interesting so shall be boring OH by watching and taking notes as approriate.

Not three bad as we say up here. A bit too much arty soft focus camera work between the articles but I agree that Carole's squeals when she harvested her first spuds had me smiling too - she has always been an enthusiastic gardener but there was no hiding her sheer delight.
Will deffo be watching in future

I would have laied the Potato trench with a general fertiliser and then added peat, then planted the spuds and covered with more peat an filled the soil on top. I do want one of those potato forks as I do get rather clumsy with my normal one when digging up Natures Gold nuggets (Potatos)

I agree Benacre, as that's what I would have done, although they weren't new beds having been used to raise nursery stock previously - even so, maybe she should have pointed out the fact that tatties are a hungry crop.

The jury is still out on this one.

I'm able to look at it from a VERY basic level. I know bits but have an awful lot to learn about vegetable gardening. Carol mentioned planting your potatoes and getting a crop before blight can get at it. Fine - and when is potato blight likely to affect the plants!! No mention of that

A bit airy fairy in beween the good bits, but as everybody else says, the delight she took when digging her potatoes was a joy to watch , it's like Christmas digging those spuds, you don't know what you're going to get till you go get out there with your fork.

I saw most of it and enjoyed all that I saw (from the lorry load of compost arriving in Kew to the end of Carol's programme) .Given a choice between this and Big Brohter I'd rather watch this anyday. Anyone want to disagree?

Great Program here is the link to the program on the BBC site with vide clips for all six episodes: http://www.bbc.co.uk/gardening/tv_an...#programme_two

That Fork was a muck fork she could bearly lift it.

On the Smutty side if she squeels like that digging up spuds I would hate to have the next hotel room to her on a dirty weekend to Margate.

When my OH lived away from home and I used to visit him on a weekend, he shared a house with two other blokes. Our mate Steve (who after 20+ years we still keep in touch with!) his girlfriend at the time made the girl in the film at the time (Porkys was it? if you are my age you'll probably know the one Im talking about!) sound quiet! It was very disturbing to be in the house downstairs to hear the noises from upstairs! Dexterdog

oh ! what a disapointment ,very arty camera work ,pretty country lanes and so forth but no good old fashioned info and advice for the beginner/experienced veg grower ,the basics as proved by the many questions by grapes ....what do i do with my dirt to make it good to grow veg in was not mentioned other than the two profesional lasses re the wonderful compost provided ,we are not all so lucky.

I agree with filthyrich, I hope next week is not all recap on what has gone before and more biographies of her mates. I watched because I wanted to learn about growing veg not look at views of the countryside and farmhouse kitchens.
