  • Tth sky is fallin'

Sat in the lounge this morning having my "breakfast" when the damn sky (ceiling) fell on my head..........
What a mess still at least we are insured...

As Chicken-licken was going one day to the wood, whack! an acorn fell from a tree
    on to his head.

"Gracious goodness me!" said Chicken-licken, "the sky must have fallen; I must go
    and tell the King."

The river Trent is lovely, I know because I have walked on it for 18 years.

Insurance will not pay out we as we are not covered for accidental damage.
Got a plasterer to come and look and will be giving us a "quote" later on today.
He said he could come and do next Monday.
Apparently it's not such a disaster as we first thought.

No there is/was no water damage it just "fell in" as the lounge is directly below our bed room.(no running water there) and no we weren't.
The house is 113 years old and the plaster is of the same age.
Thank you all for your kind words.

"it is not unknown for very hollow ceilings to last for years, or for apparently sound ceilings to fail suddenly, so predictions as to durability are necessarily approximate" Standard phrase about old (lath and plaster) ceilings in our survey reports. Be careful, old plaster often contains horsehair, and if it really is that old, there are possible health risks. That said, lath-and-plaster ceilings can be patched with the same material, rather than just putting plasterboard in, and old buildings often aren't very rigid, plasterboard is rigid so it may not 'go' very well in an old building.
(see what you get for letting me get going about the structure of old buildings?)

Hilary - can you expand on what risks there are from old horse hair - I've never heard of that before!

I think the "plaster" would have to be older than the stuff in my house.
I think the plaster in my house is lime plaster.

Horses can get Anthrax & the "spores" can survive many years.
