Never really thought about it before but I suppose the english eqv. is see ya later but never seen it used as an abbreviation and it looks a bit naff. (SYL)

Or

TTFN is just used by pillocks thinking they look clever

My parents used to say TTFN, but they were from another age - having grown up in the twenties and thirties.
Maybe Bag Molly is right and it's only used by North Americans these days. They do tend to be quite backward sometimes with the English language e.g. still using the term faucet when meaning a tap, not getting the hang of spelling colour, etc.

Isn't Ta Ta an English expression anyway? I can't quite hear it in my head as an American phrase.

Edit: I did know a couple of camp lads some years ago that used to use ttfn (I don't mean to offend anyone that is camp but hopefully you can work out the way in which it is said)

It is William, but some Americans use it as an affectation

Well my grandad used to say that but not abbreviated like that, he would also look confused
