    Told off by District Nurse

    Had to have the District Nurses in over the weekend for dressing changes and yesterday's one said the wound was healing but it looked sore around the area.

    I told her that the dressings did pull a bit while I was walking the dog and crouching down at the allotments was a bit difficult still.

    Well she coated me saying it's only a week since your operartion, you shouldn't be doing things like this.

    I told her I just can't sit around, it drives me barmy, loads to do and I'm careful about ensuring I don't get an infection.

    The nurse at the health centre who has been seeing to "me bits" all week takes it a bit more in her stride, saying just don't overdue it but then again I have sweet talked her and given her some runner beans, a cabbage and some of the dried fruit OH has been doing.
    I am certain that the day my boat comes in, I'll be at the airport.

    I think they give you chapter and verse about how things should be done in an ideal situation. However, in the real world you have to live don't you? But if the nurse said you could do a bit of pottering on the lottie and you did get an infection, she'd be for the high jump. Bit of back covering I think.

      Steve, I don't know what you have had "done" but us nurses do get frustrated when patients don't do their bit.
      I know resting isn't much fun but it might help you heal more quickly and be better in the long run.
      Having said that the DN shouldn't have had a go at you, she should have explained the risks to you and allowed you to make an informed choice for yourself.

        Don't get me wrong, I'm not having a go at nurses, I wouldn't want to do their job and I fully understood her point of view, however if I'm going to have scar tissue, at least I would like it to be in a form that allows me to move comfortably.

        It was interesting that when I had a fistular removed once before at a private clinic, they actually had me up and walking within hours of the operation. As they don't stitch these wounds but pack them so they heal from "the inside" so you don't end up with a sinus, I suppose you would want flexibility that would not be gained from inactivity.

        Maybe I misunderstand.

          like I said, don't know what you have had done, but after certain surgical procedures mobility is encouraged asap, sometimes you are encouraged to rest. You should have had some guidance.
          I guess the person that knows your body best is you, just be sensible and don't overdo it!
          Like Flum said there is probs a certain amount of back covering too!

            I had had some abcesses on my testicles which burst and also some "lumps". When they did the scan, they found another abcess under the skin 4cm long ranging from the testicle to the perineum(?), which they removed.

            Once this is healed up, if the lumps that I have been concerned about are still there, they will investigate further. The tops of the orbs of the lumps, they could see on the scan but due to the abcess showing as a dense black "cloud" across the image, they were unable to tell me what these are.

                  Blimey SS; just eating my lunch there...

                  It does sound very very sore indeed; probably even more so if I was a bloke.

                  Please look after yourself and like the nurse says; take it easy. Crouching down at allotment would be a big no-no if you were my OH, no matter how many runner beans you've got to share!
