  • Tiny gardens??

Who else is working with a teeny amount of space to grow their fud??
I just have 10ft x 20ft (made more difficult by the fact there is no direct access and everything has to be carried along a walkway and through the house!).
Ive just planted enough to cover all the fences (blackcurrants, redcurrants, raspberries and blackberries), ordered some minarette fruit trees to go in front which takes care of all the space around the edge!!LOL
Sadly I cant fit a shed as it was either compost/leaf mould bins or shed and I can keep my tools in the house!!

Id be interested to hear who else is working in miniature and any tips you have for getting the most out of your space??

Hi KG, I wouldn't call 10'x20' tiny. I had a similar area prior to getting lottie and divided it into square feet. So taking the fruit bushes into consideration, I guess that would leave you with 9'x20' giving 180 sq ft. Look up the sq ft gardening threads for more inspiration. It may not be an option you wish to use but is worth considering. It all depends what you want & how much you need to grow.

well, maybe...except half of it is patio, and I have to include somewhere to sit (to appreciate my hard work!) and also a Chihuahua race track!!(3 of them to accomodate).
Square foot gardening sounds good, I'll have to look into it further..

Mine is roughly 24ft x 15ft, but 10ft x 7ft of that is taken up by my shed. It's not tiny and is certainly big enough for my first year of growing, so I think you'll discover that you can grow quite a lot of 'fud' in your 'tiny' garden, then maybe see about an allotment at a later date.
Tried and Tested...but the results are inconclusive

Why not how long the waiting list is for lottie, round here its at lest a couple years,. You could put your name on the list now as you can always take it off if you decide growing your own isn't for you, or you don't want to grow veg a allotment scale

Have you thought of vertical gardening I don't use it myself but a lot of people have great success with the method. It should keep plants out of doggies way to.

The veg growing area of my garden is 20' x 10'. In 3 corners I have a 4'x4' raised bed, and the other corner is going to be prepared for squash. There's plenty of space to sit in the middle. Because it's your entire garden, big square beds wouldn't work in the corners (unless you have gorilla arms - mine are more t-rex ) but maybe think about growing veg all around the edges instead of in one section of the garden? I think it's a more efficient use of the space, but you might have to move the slabs, and if you did raised beds there'd be an awful lot of edging to source (which is why I didn't do it like this, even though it's prettier). Just an idea, anyway
