I am just in the process of planning my planting for this years crops, last year I grew far to many and ended up palming off loads of tomatoes, courgettes beans etc on the family which they all enjoyed, well I was thinking that I could do more of everything and sell them cheap locally to people who are not lucky enough to have a greenhouse to start things off in, I would be very interested to hear your thoughts and advice. Exactly what I thought only thing I will loose is some compost and seeds, I started some chillies and tomatoes off last week in our downstairs toilet as didnt want to start heating the greenhouse never done chillies before do they need as much heat as tomatoes?Comment

Not sure about tomatoes as I done them outside later in the year, but all my chilis get a temp of 25c to get them started,, not as high as some will say and higher than others will agree on but it works for meOriginally posted by veg crazy View PostComment

Chilli's need higher temps than tomatoes, and the earlier you can start them off the better.
If you are really determined to have them up and growing early perhaps you should have a look at the list of chilli pepper names. This may tell you how long from sowing to harvesting.
Some are quicker to mature than others.

dont we all say every year we wanna cut down or increase, i ALWAYS grow for the masses and end up with loads, even though i give some to plant swaps.......but i am going to PUT my foot down and only grow what we need (i say to myself yeah right)Dont worry about tomorrow, live for today

I've decided to garden-share with a friend who doesn't have so much space but is happy to put in some of the work our garden needs. Until this year, our garden was so overgrown we couldn't plant out anything. In the past, I've helped my friends, neighbours and even my customers at work to swap their surplus fruit and veg so everyone gets a bit of everything. Last year, I did garden work for some friends who needed extra help. They paid me in apples and berries for my time. In the end, I'd swapped what I had for a selection of corn on the cob, orchard fruit and various pickled things. Everyone ended up happy and I managed to help create some new friendships in the process.Comment

I never intend to plant loads, but somehow putting a packet of seeds in my hand is a bit like putting a wine bottle in it in the evening. Oooops, I didn't mean to pour so much.....
Besides, there's always that thought that if they don't germinate too well, I'll have wasted a couple of weeks. Last year I was relatively good and didn't go overboard. Everyone at work complained that they'd been relying on me to provide them with (free!) veg plants, so if I wasn't going to do it next year either, could I please let them know

I sell plants/excess veg etc on a little table at the end of my drive, I normally get £20-30 which pays for the compost. Plus lots of nice comments from my neighbours!Comment

I am planning to sell my excess at a car boot sale. I have loads of strawberry plants already and I have noticed that a lot of people make a bee line for plant stalls.

Thanks for all the nice comments I have been really thinking about this over the last couple of days and I am going to go for it after all havent much too loose other than time a few seeds and compost so about £10 then.
I have also noticed that people always head for plant stalls me included but I cant remember any selling veg, I am planning to do simple guides to go with the plants just simple potting on instructions and general care this way I'm hoping to introduce the poeple with little or no experiance try a tomato or chilli, What do you think it wouldnt take much time to put together and sometimes I am put off if the plant doesnt have instructions and go for one with them.Comment
