  • Think I've Been Had.

Do you ever get that feeling, you've been had? You may remember my posts on the 'Minor Rant Thread' regarding a sofa we had ordered.

To re-cap; ordered sofa (green). Sofa arrived, wrong colour (brown). Ordered Replacement sofa (green). Replacement arrived. Wrong colour (brown).

Well a representative of the store was sent to our house with a book of fabric samples. No shades of green in the book. The chap kept saying how surprised he was that the sofa we had recieved did indeed look green in the shop. He could not believe the difference different lighting conditions made to the apparent colour of the fabric.

    Yea right.

Now what bothers me is that the fabric samples were held in place in the book merely by a sprung clip. I can't help thinking that all they've done is remove the green fabric but how do I prove it?

I'm sure I've been had but don't have the evidence to argue my case.
It is the doom of man, that they forget.

Contact the Head Office ASAP and explain the situation.( get a name of someone there)
Send a letter /e-mail to the store to say this is what you are doing as you are very surprised at what they have said.

Surely at some time during this debackle you have mentioned that you were expecting a green one. How come they didn't tell you then that green had never been an option.

Speaking as an Interior Designer, it is amazing what different lighting can do to colours, however, this does sound most peculiar. Could you get him show you the sample book next to the store sofa, and make a note of the name of the closest matching colour, then all take the book back to your house and do the same thing?
I have had clients query the colour of the finished item with me in the past, but usually the sample book and the quote prove the case one way or the other.

Is the showroom local? I'd go back and have a look at the colour swatches they have in the store and take pics if necessary.

Yes, I'm in agreement with Bex on this one snuffer, if you can get someone to call at the shop and get some photos, even if there only on a mobile phone you might be able to prove that they do in dead have the green option, smells a bit fishy to me mate. Just a thought...do they have a web site???? If they do, pop on there and have a look at the colour options, then add the site to your favorites (just in case they delete the colour).

Sorry I'm not in a very trusting mood.

Did you buy your sofa from Debenhams by any chance? If so do you need the email address of the head of Customer Services

A bit of a long shot but is it velvet type fabric? I used to be in tailoring & velvet type materials are bizzare when looked at from different angles.......just a thought.

Surely if they didn't have a green version on offer they couldn't have accepted your order. The fact that they did accept it means that they DID have a green option available. They speak with forked tongue I think.

Just a thought.... but I once made an expensive mistake when writing up a customer's order, I took the colour reference from the preceding fabric - had the pattern book open at the correct sample but instead of lifting the sample up and taking the ref number off the back of that I just looked at the label on the back of the preceeding fabric...

That is what I believe has happened in this case. I will be going back to the shop under the pretense of ordering another sofa. The only problem being is that this fiasco started in February. There is no gaurantee that the same sofa is still being stocked.
