  • That's the Xmas shopping done ..

I wasn't intending to, but I just did all my Xmas shopping !
I was looking for a birthday present online, and the site had a Sale, so it was so easy just to click, click, click ...

No, actually I hate shopping, esp.Xmas shopping. But it's a necessary evil, so to get it all done and put away in advance is a dream.

Sorry but i love the feel of xmas shopping, the dark nights, the xmas lights all that type of stuff, we usually go to Bath or york as they have xmas markets on, and sell unusual gifts and we munch on roasted chestnuts as we do our shopping, sorry but doing my xmas shopping online just doesnt do it for me, although my oh would do it your way if i let him!!!

(whispers) I bought 2 pressies last week in a sale in a shop (I was passing through between their carpark and the garden shop up the road - honest!!). One sister and SIL sorted!!

I have over 30 people to sort out, so I try to get started early and be done in time to ENJOY December!! This year, my 8 aunts and uncles in one family are getting handknitted scarves and I have 3 finished and 2 more just over half finished. One gran-aunt is getting a knitted lapblanket, and I have that started (I am doing that in the office at lunchtimes!). I have also bought the toys for my 2 nephews in the sales and made decisions about a number of others (some -like the creche - involve last minute baking with the toddler).

Which should hopefully mean that we can take one nice family trip to town to enjoy the lights and bustle, with a cup of coffee and a bun, rather than mad dash around the shops, and also have the time to DO a few baking sessions with the toddler (and those being fun rather than trying desperately to fit them in), so Christmas should be a pleasure this year!!

I've even gone and booked tickets for the "Santa Train" for the weekend before Christmas - there's a steam train that does a 2 hour journey where Santa gives every kid a selection box but has a chat too, there's carol singing, and its a steam train (toddler loves ALL trains) and it is really popular (there are some trains sold out already!).

My OH has decided that this year she will be making homemade truffles. Only downside is these need to be eaten within three days of making them, this doesn't sounds like its going to make for a restful christmas buildup to me.

Homemade fudge lasts a few weeks - so that might be an option for some forward planning Mickey? Or there was a thread a couple of years back (which I copied the recipes from rather than bookmarking) about other sweets to make - lots looked really nice and could be made in advance too like peppermint drops......yum!!

Me too! Me too! I get pathetically excited in the style of a child. Last year, I was very pregnant just before Christmas, and so DID turn to the internet and did loads online as I couldn't quite bring myself to face the hordes. This year, I'm planning on getting some stuff online, so I can really enjoy the Christmas songs in shops, feeling all tinselly and happy, getting little pressies for people. I also love wrapping presents really prettily and putting them under the tree; making mince pies; ooohhh... I'm actually feeling Christmassy...

Would love to do the Christmas shopping now but as we only really have to do for ourselves and the two kids now, it wouldn't work.

Eldest 24, he's a techno gadget junkie, so he would have already have bought what we have by Christmas.

Other one, 15 year old girl, doesn't know what's "in" or "out" from one week to the next.

Threatened to buy her Bratz dolls last year and she threatened to leave home (if only)
I am certain that the day my boat comes in, I'll be at the airport.

It's early July, it must be down to the frightful weather of late.

I definately prefer the run up to Christmas - shopping, writing/sending cards, seeing friends, putting up the decorations etc. to the actual day itself.

The earliest I have Christmas shopped for pressies is September at Bluewater once the kids (other peoples) had gone back to school. I did find that less stressful than standing in huge queues in Woolies on Christmas Eve, and I think the advantage of online shopping is that you can compare prices, stock levels and delivery times quickly compared to marching up and down the high street with the OH complaining that he'd rather be at home. Last year I was late and didn't starting my shopping til mid December. I decided to leave him at home one Saturday morning and 'do it til it was done', that was far less painful than normal.
