  • Terry Pratchett's 'Going Postal' on Sky 1

Have you seen! 'Going Postal' is on over the Bank Holiday weekend! Whoo Hooo!!!

I'm a bit worried though, coz I have quite a 'thing' for Moist von Lipwig the main character, and I'm not sure I like their choice of actor...Richard Coyle...he just doesn't fit my mental image.

Yeah, I love the Sky1 adaptations of TP's books...I'm just worried about Moist...I'm also a bit worried about who's playing Sam Vimes, he's such a key character, and I have mental images of both of them.

That's the problem Becki - they can never live up to your imagination. However, after seeing David Jason playing Rincewind - NOT how I imagined him - he really brought the character to life.

I know what you mean about M von L though. Wonderful character - you've got to love him!

No sky though. I shall buy the DVD!

Moist Van Lipwig/Jeff from Coupling? I like that idea. Charles Dance as Vetinari is a bit wrong though as does the casting for Angua. However as I don't have Sky I'll have to wait for the DVD.

The only problem with David Jason as Rincewind is... he was so perfect as Albert!

Hey its no weirder than having a thing for Mr Darcy . But what is it about Moist? Is it that 'loveable rogue' thing? Is it his dedication to Adora Belle?...its fascinating subject, I don't know why I like him so much .

True, and what happens if they choose to adapt a story involving both characters - then they'll be stuck won't they!

That's the problem PB, surely sooner or later they have to do Mort?
The thing that makes Moist so appealing is that he simply doesn't THINK about the effect he has on others, and when it is brought home to him, he is a nice bloke, in complete contrast to Reacher Gilt who is an absolute illegitimate disciple of Onan.

                      Precisely! Then what will happen?

Yes, there's an element of danger with Moist, but you know that when push comes to shove he'll make the right decision.

                        Hi Folks,

Never read or watched any of Terry Pratchett's stuff but the ad for "going Postal" grabbed my attention.

Is it part of a series/set whatever or can I enjoy watching it without seeing others?
                        Cheers

                        Danny

Danny the beauty of TP is you can just dip in to any of the books/adaptations you fancy, you don't have to start at the beginning and trawl through all of them. I really hope you enjoy 'Going Postal', I'm a huge fan (can you tell? )

I just may be Danny, I certainly own the best example of his autograph. I got him to sign a t-shirt with fabric paint in a kind of ballpoint pen, and he was having trouble making the paint flow, so he had to do a really slow signature instead of one of his usual dashed-off, book-signing autographs! Bonus!!
