  • Tent or Polytunnel?

From a thought started on http://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/gra...ons_65619.html I want to ask you all, especially the Happy Campers and Festival goers whether a tent could be turned into a polytunnel? or a temporary shelter for growing on plants, or anything else in the garden really!

It's be a bit dark wouldn't it? you might be able to shade a greenhouse with some of it. Or use it store wood

If it's one of those tents with an 'extension', and plenty of plastic-window, that bit might be useable...

Why, do you want some more tomatoes? It could be arranged via @Marksy

I have thought about this a few times and I'm fairly certain (that 'fairly certain' is an oxymoron) that it would be easy enough to cut out panels from each side and sew in some UV stable polythene sheet to replace the removed fabric.
Tried and Tested...but the results are inconclusive

earlier this week on my local freecycle someone was asking for old large tent frames to use on an allotment to make a fruit cages and polytunnels.

dome tent poles are long and flexible and could be reassembled in the dome shape to hold netting or fleece maybe. great size for a fruit bush. Handy for making a wide cloche with a timber base rail few timber supports.

metal gazebo frames would be excellent for a cage, strong and tall. and can fit several together to add up the length if you get square ones.

plenty of gazebos will be getting replaced with the nice weather here so get on freecycle and get some before they end up at the tip of gone with the scrapmen.

Great idea Woody21 - been struggling ( with appauling engineering skills ) to make brassicas net frames, so might look out for tent frames.

I have a trailer tent, the frame of one of those would make a fab fruit cage as they have extendable side poles to take up up over 2 metres in height. The extendable poles tend to have ring holes on them also, so built in fixings for netting.

If you could pick up a really dodgy old one you could adapt the trailer back to being a proper trailer idea for carrying stuff back and for to lottie.

                  Found this one
I'm only here cos I got on the wrong bus.
