  • Techie Question?

    Folks,

Does anyone know how/if I can select/export the contents from a whole thread to another document, say word?
    Cheers

I don't know about exporting but Thread Tools gives you an option for a printable version. You could copy and paste that into Word.

I'm intrigued Broadway - why would you want to do that?

Just what I was wondering, FF - why on earth would you want to put this all in a word document when it only makes sense on the vine?
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

              Yes very simple.
Open a copy of Word and the thread you want to copy.
In Internet Explorer use your mouse to highlight all the stuff you want to copy. Click at top left, keep button pressed and move mouse to bottom right, (doesn't matter if it is off screen, it will scroll down).
Press <Ctrl> and <C> to copy the highlighted material.
Swap to Word and press <Ctrl> and <V> to paste.

If the thread is multi page then repeat as needed for each page.

When doing this sort of stuff I find that it is generally easier to do this via Notepad. That is paste into Notepad, recopy in Notepad, then paste the material from Notepad into Word. Notepad will only show plain unadulterated Text, so it strips out all the formatting applied by the forum, as well as smilies etc.
If you go straigt to Word it will act "intelligently" by Microsoft standards and automatically paste Internet stuff as HTML format, so a forum thread ends up as a table.
Via Notepad it is alot easier to get the meat without the gravy.
Always thank people who have helped you immediately, as they may not be around to thank later.

                Thanks Peter,

I tried all the normal cut and paste tricks before I posted, must have been an issue with Opera? as I've now done them successfully using IE!
                Cheers
