  • T&M Onions

I got my white onion sets last week - not bad but a few that had gone mouldy and rotted (10%). Today my red ones have arrived and what a dissapointing lot that appears to be. A load of them have sprouted (really sad looking white shoots), and a lot are wet and mouldy. Only about 50% look as they should be.

    Send them back.

I get mine from Wilko's, £1.25 a bag, about 150 sets a bag. I never order onions sets or seeds spuds online as you can't see what you're getting (freebies excepted of course).

I'd plant 'em and see how you go. They're meant to sprout (eventually) and will get wet after all. I'm guessing they'll be fine.

BUT I'd also take a photo and send to T&M. You may get your money back and or vouchers.

There's a thread about this somewhere else, I think Vegging Out. A few of us have had problems with T&M onions sets this year - my reds (Red Emperor) were ina terrible state too. I took photos of mine and sent an email, but I haven't had any reponse at all yet. Really disappointed because I've used them for more or less everything for a few years now, and never had any trouble at all.

T&M normally look after their customers really well in my personal experience when something goes wrong. I had some 'near' freebies (p&p) from a paper and I informed them when 1 of 3 items rotted at the base - fuschia I think? I was told to retain the good ones and they sent an ENTIRE set of replacements.

I think the test of a company and your experience with them is when things go wrong and how well they do in putting things right. So far I have no complaints with T&M and would recommend them as such. I do tend to use them the most for my distance purchases of seeds, plants and tubers.

Send an email or give them a quick call - I think you'll be surprised at how sympatheticaly they deal with your concern. Always get names of those who deal with your problem - just in case....

Just rang them - they're going to send me two more packs as replacements. Let's hope they are better than this lot.

My Setton Onion Sets weren't the best - got them from the local gardening club and I am not sure who thier supplier is but they reduced the cost to 99p a bag as the quality wasn't great, they did hand sort them weeding out any that were too bad before selling them.

It's soooo annoying. Cos you've bought them you don't want to buy any more as you don't want to end up with millions. They came good with the spuds but their communications could be improved.

No T&M for me next year - stick to Wilcos and local shops I think.
