  • Super Mozzies.

I was bitten by a mozzie at 9pm last night and by 11pm my hand looked like a boxing glove. Is it just me or are the darned things getting more lethal every year?

I took Piriton last night and again this morning, but only had the 2 left, then this afternoon I dabbed some of Mum's magic potion on it, it's a mixture of some essential oils I think and she swears by it for minor burns and stings. When I went to the pharmacy just now they suggested a different antihistamine and I've taken one of those, I'll see what happens.
I think someone here a while ago suggested that some people may be more susceptible to mozzie bites than others, and OH certainly never seems to get bitten, so I'm starting to wonder if I'm becoming increasingly sensitive to them as this is the second quite nasty one I've had in the past 10 days.

A friend of ours was bitten about 3 days ago on the front of his ankle and I've seen his leg today - swollen up to the knee and travelling upwards still it would seem. Horrid site where the mossie struck - think he may need doctor's treatment.

Surely a mere mossie shouldn't affect people as badly as this or are they on steroids these days?! I know some people are more susceptible/reactive - but this is ridiculous.

Might not be a mossie bite! Could be horsefly. Get your friend to go see the doc!

Bites can get infected he might need a topical antseptic or possibly antibiotics.
The weeks and the years are fine. It's the days I can't cope with!

I've seen peeps come on to our ward with cellulitis following insect bites - not pleasant at all. I'd suggest doc for that, it sounds nasty. Went to the Gambia 9 years ago, and a bloke at the hotel had purple lumps all over his legs due to mozzie bites.

I've got to agree that any "insect" bite that gives a swelling bigger than a zit needs to be seen by a doctor, especially if the bite point becomes large and "raw".

Bites can give all sorts of problems from flu-like symptoms to heart failure.

                Better safe than sorry!!

However, having just recovered from a bite on my ankle that swelled up like a big swelled-up-thing I know I am not very good at taking my own advice!!
The proof of the growing is in the eating.
                Leave Rotten Fruit.
                Nitrogen, Phosphorus, Potasium - potash.
                Autant de têtes, autant d'avis!!!!!
Il n'est si méchant pot qui ne trouve son couvercle.

Well I've given my friend the advice already and he 'says' he will see doc today.

If he choses not to go then it won't be for want of hearing the right thing to do.l

Quite frankly I'm surprised he waited 3 days - I'd have gone after 24 hours if swelling and bite site nasty - probaby the difference of a X and Y chromosone!
