I do mung beans but fancied something different. Do you ever just use left over gardening seeds? Someone said they do sunflower?
Bren are these just lentils bought from the shop

Where do you find whole lentils. The big supermarkets round here just have the split type or am I looking at the wrong thing

Its the greeny lentils that look like flying saucers. You can sprout aduki beans too. I sometimes use up oldish seeds like broccoli, rocket, lettuce or spring onion by sprouting them but you have to watch out for the seeds as they may have been treated with something horrid. Best to grow them in a seed tray and cut the sprouts off with scissors.

You can use all the brassicas as sprouting seeds, and herbs that make lots of seed you wouldn't otherwise use are good too - fennel, for example. Mustard and cress doen't have to be grown in compost, (or on blotting paper like we did as kids at school), bung it in a jar.
I also do mung beans, aduki beans, chick peas, and lentils - (not all at once of course!)
                Location - Leicestershire - Chisit-land
                Endless wonder.

Sunflower seeds are lovely, but I found the packet of 'sprouting' ones came in the seed case, which needed to be removed before eating. I bought a packet of hulled ones from the health food shop and sorted out unbroken ones. These sprouted and coud be used easily. I suppose it depends which way you prefer to put the labour in. I found it easier to sort the hulled seeds, and the broken ones are fine for using in bread or to just nibble on.
I could not live without a garden, it is my place to unwind and recover, to marvel at the power of all growing things, even weeds!

I use aduki, chickpea, mung, alfalfa, sunflower, radish, pea,lentils.....the list is endless really. Were your seeds old maybe stella, this can impact germination of sprouts.

I tend to soak mine for 24hours and then rinse twice a day. Did alfalfa last week good results.

The alfalfa seeds were new but I just thought the result was pretty thin and with very little taste

Anyone tell me where to buy Alfalfa seeds as I am going to have another go at sprouting them. T&M sell them for £1.99 but it is quite a small packet, dont think the supermarket does them?
