  • Spouse stealing my gardening thunder

This is really driving me crazy. DH has practically taken over the garden....MY garden, rather. He goes there more than I do and finds time to go when I cannot, like when I am still sleeping or when I am doing a sink-full of dishes. This is pissing me right off and I don't know what to do. He's already killed my baby watermelon and a butternut squash too. Even though I insisted they are not CLOSE to ready.) I suppose it's my fault for "asking" DH to help me dig some furrows and help with the harder work this Spring. But, I still don't want to share!

Compromise, and give him a section all to himself.

What really winds me up is that me & andi(sorry andi & I!)prob put equal amount of effort into lottie~sometimes during the week I'll do more as he's working & I'm at home.Yet still peeps are always saying what a good job HE'S done!!Think the worst occasion was one day last year~me & Ash had spent almost every week day up there~& an old boy came over & said how proud I must be of how well Andi had done getting on top of it all!!
Could you not try persuading OH how much fun there is to be had washing dishes!?(& then make a hasty escape!!)

          That's a good idea Mikey

It's nice to have a DH that wants to help out but not in that way I guess. Have a word with him and emphasise the 'sharing' aspect like "it'd be fun if I can be out there with you too and make it 'our' activity". something like that? That way you both get out there, together, and you can keep an eye on what's being pulled up

don't have this problem being single although happybunny(daughter) loves helping with the planting and harvesting funny how more neighbours have got chatting recently!! No one growing veg in the street next door kids have had strawbs and lettuce dont mind as they have always been friendly and helped me out when out crutches last year, those round the corner hinting at produce and the couple who have never spoke(been here 4 years) started chatting as well as man across the road. Maybe I'm just being paranoi

If you do give him a section, when people come over to praise how hard he works, show them the roughest area of the plot and say, what are you on about that's his bit there !!

I really like the idea of giving him his own bit. I probably wouldn't mind that he harvests everything, and beats be to the fruit all the time, if only he'd pull ONE weed every once in a while when he's there. At least he doesn't take all the credit....... but I have no idea what he says when I'm not out there.

My OH doesnt have a clue when it comes to gardening, if he's asked me once 'what is that ' then he's asked a hundred times, he did help at the begining when I first got the allotment to dig it over, sort the shed out etc but now he stands with his hands in his pockets, even the chap on the next plot passed comment on that one, or he stay's home.
                  Great cos its MY allotment.

My OH won't pull weeds out either. This is not because he's lazy, but is because he doesn't know a weed from a cultivated plant and he won't ask. It seems to be a bloke thing, you know, like refusing to ask directions when lost, trying to put together flat-pack furniture without recourse to the instruction leaflet..........
Into each life some rain must fall........but this is getting ridiculous.
