sorry... not been around to participate... in the early sowing threads as promised or the grapevine seed swap growing...

Been struck down with an awful tummy bug since Christmas Eve... Hubby just been to get more Imodium and Dioralyte.

Thankfully both men in my house don't have it as bad as me.

I just hope it's over soon.... any house remedies I could try that won't make me worse?

    Thanks

    Franziska

    Aah, sorry to hear that.

There is a second seed circle so get in there before all those places are taken. And the early sowing threads are up and running now.

For bad tummies; flat ginger ale [got to be canada dry]. Old Native American remedy. I keep a bottle in the cupboard just for if I'm ever under the weather.

    Hope you feel better soon.

        Sorry to hear that tiachica

I agree with Zaz about the ginger - in our house it's usually McVities Ginger Nuts. Also almost flat Coke is good in small bits. It was a doctor who recommended that when one of my kids was really poorly with gastroenteritis. Makes sense if you think about it - see what it does to a penny soaked in it and you can see it finishing off germs quite easily

Hope you're soon on the mend.

My mum used to give us Indian Brandy for really bad tummy aches, it was brown, and you had to mix it with hot water. Hot water bottle on your tummy is comforting and will ease the gripes and groans and crampts.
The best thing we have found for being sick is some liquid which comes in triangular bottle, it is pink and looks like old fashioned windolene window cleaner!
I cannot for the life of me remember the name of it, old age!
It gets rid of stomach cramps and stops you feeling sick and nauseus.
If your hubbie was to go to the chemist and describe it to them they would know.
When my husband comes back from the hospital i will ask him the proper name for you.
Don't forget to drink lots, re hydrate powders are disgusting but contain all the essential salts and minerals you will need to replace and you should try and drink some of those but get the flavoured ones not the adult plain ones as they are really horrid.
Hope you all feel better soon.

I go for fizzy, because the bubbles seem to help with any painful trapped wind going on (Little One had it Boxing Day, she was in quite a bit of discomfort too).

I got this from an expedition survival guide: "To combat dehydration drink plenty of fluid, preferably oral rehydration salts such as dioralyte or as an alternative use Coca-cola or Schweppes tonic water"

Ginger is great. When I was on chemo I couldn't even keep water down, and the only thing to stop the sicky nausea was ginger beer. I still use it in preference to Lucozade (which is just sugary pop after all).

sorry to hear alls not been well at home, as said ginger and flat coke(sprinkle a tiny bit of salt in the coke too -flattens the coke and they need a bit of salt to start replacing the electrolytes) Try lucosade origional too perhaps for the electrolytes.

Sorry you're not well Franziska, my O.H. has a tummy bug too, he keeps thinking he's better , eats something & then has to rush to the loo for one thing or the other! I'd just keep drinking fluids, (anything other than dairy) & diluted fruit juice seems to work for me.

                    Hallo to all,

thank you soo much for your replies. It looks *touch wood* like it slowly calmed down, which I am very grateful for. I tried the ginger, but it gave me heartburn, so I stuck with peppermint tea instead. Been eating some yoghurt today, to try and sort my guts, and no undesirable side effects. Wohoo! Feeling a little more human too.

Thank you for all the wishes and suggestions!
                    Franziska :-)

PS: Even started a cranberry/pomegranate wine tonight.
