  • Some of your festive favourites.....

I was just wondering what other peeps consider as some of their favourite scents/sounds and flavours for the festive season?

For me it has to be ...The scent of a real pine Xmas Tree, the sound of little bells tinkling on the tree ( usually the cat trying to pull them off!)

I'll have to think about the flavour one. Clementines and cinnamon, or brazil nuts ( stuck in teeth for several hours )probably ....BUT....

I've just opened a festive room scent for the loo.
The smell of cloves is so strong it reminds me of the dentist!...ewww.

For me, it's pine, sage, rosemary, citrus, ginger, fig and cinnamon:-
      Pine - tree and wreaths
      Rosemary - roasted potatoes
      Sage - stuffing
Citrus - bird, pudding, cake, juice on potatoes
      Ginger - bread house, candles
Fig - fruit bowl and candles
      Cinnamon - festive drinks
Cheese - the stinker the better

Sounds include wrapping paper, excited children, squeaks and dogs (over excited), little snores from a relaxed Mr VVG taking a much needed break from overwork, clink of my wine glass and the radio (owing to more repeats on TV)!

      I forgot to add flavours:-
cheese (a combo of Stilton, Comté, Vacherin, cheddar, Adelstrop, Wensleydale and another blue), celery, smoked salmon (breakfast tradition), Birds pork pie and tomato (Boxing day tradition), nuts (for me it's walnuts, for Mr VVG it's peanuts), citrus (as above), vanilla in proper homemade custard, proper gravy, sage and onion stuffing, bread sauce with bay leaf and the taste of roast dinner. I'm not a big one for pudding or cake, probably because of the big long list I've just read. I make them for others every year glazed ham - another thing I do. Leftover colcannon fried off with sausages for Boxing Day tea.

it just confirms that all we do is eat in this household

Don't encourage him VVG, Ap has a cold and his drippy nose stuff would mingle with the hot wax and could cause an explosion

And so, to all those feasts and fragrances, you need music.......I'm not religeous, but there are certain hymns and carols that really touch me.

Yes, Son was supposed to download some music the other night! He put the Christmas tree up and wanted some.
I don't do the pine tree, they don't last very long indoors in hot weather, and the bucket of water they are in is always a worry for me if you put lights on your tree :eek"

Cinnamon, nutmeg, and other spices are the smell. Looking for a candle with 'just the right' smell atm.

Foods? A bit of Suntanned Christmas, some shortbread, cranberry jelly with chicken or turkey, and prawns. MANGOES! And yes I'd like something mulled, but I get a little muddled when I do.

Sounds? The song the santa hanging in the door way sings, when you pull his legs........and OUCH when the hook he's hanging on comes out of the arcitrave and he hits someone on the noggin.

I have no sense of smell. Not normally a problem......I never notice nasty ones either.......

I love all the christmas foods especially the traditional curry! Just can't smell them......
