Thankyou all for your support when i asked about sciatica. A physiotherapist came out to see me today, shocked how quick that was, but he has said I have muscualar sciatica as a result of hypermobility. Not totally sure how hypermobility will affect me as of yet but I have excercises for the sciatica.

Hi Jax, there are a few of us on here who are hypermobile me included. With me its mainly my knees, wrist joints and elbows, I dont have the little finger thing! I have to go out now but Ill pop back on later. I know Sarz has it too and there is a useful link on the bottom of her page, which is how I discovered I was hypermobile. Prior to reading that I always referred to myself as "double jointed" which is what my nan called me! She had funny joints too! Id recommend reading the link on sarzs page though

Yeah its wierd. Now I have been told about it I notice all the wierd things my body does. The physio guy kept bending my thumb and fingers back and the student he had with him pointed it out because when I was laying flat on the floor my feet were also flat. Amazing stuff, dont really understand it yet and am not sure what implications it can/may have so lots of new stuff to read

Yep thats what it was like for me! Ive always been able to put my thumb flat against my arm but just thought everyone did that! Also In yoga I started to notice my tutor kept saying "Elbows other way Donna!" and I had to really concentrate to turn them!
According to my consultant many world class gymnasts are hyper mobile....I could have had such a different life!
Seriously though I think its ramifications are different for everyone! For me? Well I have had differing problems on my left side. Steroid injections in my hip, wrist and shoulder now. Ive had pretty bad carpal tunnel in my left hand resulting in surgery.... seems to have worked/improved depending on the day! Im not dropping too much now!
If I remember the link that Sarz had says there may be all sorts of conditions linked?
I think Sarah said to keep an eye on kids as its heriditory, certainly my gran had it too, or at least funny elbows!!
I spose when you think about it....the thigh bones connected to the....so if your joints are hyper mobile it is gonna play out else where too really.
It helps knowing what it is, and then you find there are actually loads of us out there Jax! Dont worry too much just keep an eye and make a mental note. My things played out over so many years I didnt connect them, big gaps between them.
Hip problem was a long time ago, hand very recent, but reading the link made me think "hang on". A freind of mines a physio who confirmed it.
The only thing I can say with certainty is that it doesnt make me any better at Yoga, damn it!!

Yeah, well when I was younger I was a gymnast (not that you can tell now) and could do the splits wothout stretching etc. If I lift my foot up behind me and stretch it as you do sometimes it comes past my side. With being a gymnast everyone was always impressed as it meant they didnt need to do the extra work with me! So I thought it was just very clever lol. Over time hubby noticed that I get hurt alot easier and looking back now it makes sense! Initially when he told me it didnt hit me and then last night researching it abit I started to get abit worried etc about what the future will hold. Now though, I am back to my positive self and think that you cant tell what the future will hold and will wait and see. I am having to train myself not to sit cross legged as I was told off for that but I have always done it ans have excercises to do for my sciatica. I have my concerns for the future but they are "in" the future and not my present. For now I have to stop hubby from treating me like a china doll!!!!!! Its very sweet though.
