  • Sodding weather and Raynauds

It's bl00dy freezing where the ponies are, now and I have to change footwear to go into the fields, so put wellies on. I also have to stand guarding my shetland whilst he eats, or fatso will come and steal his food and my shettie needs the calories. So, I'm stood still for ages and getting colder as time goes on. When I got home, my feet were still like blocks of ice, even sat under a duvet with the heating on, so about 7:30 I went for a shower and stood on one leg to wash the soles of my feet in hot water. They were a deathly yellow and when I put them back down, it really hurt and felt like I had huge blisters!

I'm normally a bit more clued up, due to the Raynauds, but I guess I was caught out. I couldn't get out of the shower for ages as it hurt to walk, but they're fine now. Needless to say, I pulled out the MoonBoots this morning and will be guarding the little old one with woolly feet, later!

    Look after your feets, people!

My lovely dad bought me a pair of Hunter wellies a couple of birthdays ago, I got a size bigger than I needed and one of the boys bought me fleece liners for them - they are brilliant for when guarding horses while they eat.

Sadly I don't have to do that any more as I only have one left and he doesn't need feeding other than a couple of carrots or polos.

I've brought ours in at night coz I'm fed up with the greedy one getting the pick of the feeds, as he's the one that doesn't need it! I think he must have been left hungry earlier in his life, as he treats every mealtime like he hasn't eaten in a year - and they get two feeds a day and ad-lib hay at night - greedy wotsits.

A couple of winters ago, I splashed out on a really expensive pair of neoprene wellies, as my muck boots had worn through. They are the best things ever. I've never had cold feet whilst wearing them - even if outside all day.

My OH moaned about the price, but when I bought him a pair last Christmas, he tried them on and declared they were as warm and comfy as slippers!

What's the brand, please, Glutton? I was dropping major hints about the Muckboots in the tack shop the other day to OH, but at £55 they ain't cheap! I have nice warm caterpillars for weekend stuff, but they're not exactly convenient for slipping on and off! Did consider Hunters, but I keep hearing reports that the new versions are just not up to the job.

I know that my exmoor was not very well treated in his earlier life. I know his history from 2yrs old - he was the victim of naive first time owners who bought him at the sales straight off the moor. He has ad-lib hay next to him and a huge fibre feed, so it's not like I leave him with nowt - he just knows that the Old Man gets better stuff!

I'd love to bring them in at night, but the oldie needs all the movement he can get, so they choose when to go in/out.

Mine are 2 years old and still look like new - mind you they are worn winter only really. Can only say that I have found them as good and comfy as ever - and wonderfully cozy with the fleecy sock liners on too!

I have the same problem Sluglobber, I've got a pair of fake fur furry boots on in the house at the moment & my toes are still dead & freezing. I do always try to remember to put two thin pairs of socks on rather than one thick pair when I go out as well as it's supposed to give better insulation. The specialist I saw about it years ago said either drink a brandy or whisky each day, take blood thinning tablets or move to Florida! I didn't take him up on any of those though so just suffer in silence!

They are Le Chameau, and cost about £110 a pair. Now, when you've picked yourself up off the floor - or finished laughing your head off, whichever is appropriate - I was in full-time, well-paid employment at the time, not like now.

I scoffed at my Dad when he bought a pair to wear when he went shooting, and he's only just thinking about replacing them, and he's had them FIFTEEN years!

Cold feet = misery. You can't put a price on warm toasty toes! X

QUICK! get down wooolies before they shut up shop, you will think i am daft but they have those chemical handwarmers in at the moment for £2 a pair, they are small and round and will fit under your arches just right, that'll keep your feet warm, and they are re-usable.

you can get them here too, but they are twice the price for only one. i swear by them though, great for inside kids gloves etc

Thanks Bride, will take a look. I have a feeling they'd drive me potty, though!

Have heard the 'drink a brandy' thing before. What works for me is Grand Marniere and I did have one in the pub last night and felt all rosy, lol! Trouble is, at home, 1 of those turns into a wine glass full. I love the stuff!

Had to laugh at your Le Chameaus, Glutton! I do know people with them and have considered them, but yes, the price is enough to raise my blood temp! My cheapo wellies have lasted me 8 years, which doesn;t help, as they were only 5 euros in Carrefour!

My feet used to get cold really easily, and take forever to warm up, then someone advised me to buy the traditional Scholl's Sandals (the wooden ones) and wear them for as much of the year as possible, except when it is too wet. By the time that first pair had worn out my feet were MUCH better. The other trick (that helps) is to make sure legs and ankles are warm, than the warmth can actually reach your feet. My hands used to 'chill' too, and I am not confortable in gloves, but long sleeves that really keep the warm all the way down to the base of the thumb make a BIG difference!

Fur Lined Boot From Cotton Traders

I bought some of these for a trip to Norway last December (-14 degrees) and this winter I'm wearing them for fishing - they're not the most attractive, but even sitting, fishing all day, my feet are dry and toastie!

Phewee. I had my country manager down today for a trip, and I had to host him. We ended up waiting at the airport for his flight back for about 2 hours and I am sure I am now suffering the effects of sun stroke. So hot here, my feet are just about to explode. Whats that? Sorry? Oh ok, I'll go now.

*Splat, don't worry I've swatted him

Henry, my retired TB hid at the back of his box this morning. He was well relieved when I threw hay at him. The others didn't care but I'll let the old mare have a wander around the yard later.

Must be a TB thing Hayley, mine was at the back sulking this morning - the rain was blowing in his doorway. The cobs just stand there and get wet heads!

Chooks are trying to hide out of the weather and their shelter keeps blowing down.

I hope bobleponge's sun stroke is hell!
