BBC News - DNA identifies new ancient human dubbed 'X-woman'

    http://www.independent.co.uk/news/sc...n-1926980.html

I know a few of you are interested in 'the striding forth ' of ancient woman!!!!!!!

I actually find this quite exciting!!!! (almost on a par with checking my seedling growing!)

Well, apologies to the chaps, but I think the ancient women are the reason we're all still here. The fellers went out on big, macho animal hunts and occasionally brought back meat. Meanwhile, day to day, the women 'gathered' and kept everyone's body and soul together with leaves and nuts and roots etc. until the next big, male, show-off hunt.

That's the Flum theory of evolution anyway!

(Which means we invented gardening eh?)

Ooh... I do love bit of 'striding out' mitochondrial Eve. Thanks for the links - I missed this somehow on the BBC.

P.s. I bet that when the men came back with their lumps of dead animal ('honestly, you should seen the size of the one that got away'); the women who had calmly got along very well eating nuts and plants, and nurturing each other for weeks, had to pretend they were dead impressed 'Oh thank goodness. We're all saved again, you clever boys' whilst doing this and this behind their backs.

Yep, you are bang on the money Flummery, that's what the scientists think too !
Mono-tasking brutes came back frostbitten to finally do a bit of short-fingered decorating in the spare room in the cave (origin of cave art ), while the multi-tasking homemaker stayed home sweeping away all the unhygienic dirt and poisonous creepy crawlies (origin of phobias) and generally doing things with roots and berries and leaves.
So not much difference there then, except their deep freeze wasn't in danger of breaking down...

ROFLPMSL I'll bet, different DNA or not, some things don't change !

Away from the monolithic stereotypes however, I had a quick read and found it really interesting.
3 species of "man" living at the same time. I found the bit wondering if they had fought each other or not to be quite thought provoking. I just cant imagine what Ug would have thought of new Ug if they had ever come face to face.
