Piskie love, i did try to explain in the other threads, these are actually real people!!

they are paid pennies in third world countries to sit in front of a pute all day, and apply for membership to forums and then spam them, thats how the BigWigs get round the authentication problem, dont ask me how it can possibly worth their while money wise, but thats what they are doing, it is also why it is past impossible to stop them, they are NOT bots.
the only way to truely stop them is for you to have to apply, by email, answer a few questions etc, tie up admins ALL day answering them, and they will STILL get through cos that what they are being paid to do.

all admin can do, is delete them as we find them, it sux, i know, but thats the way it is.

LOL, don't think that will help, wish it would,Piskie is on about members joining that aren't really members, just signing up to spam the site, it slows the site down. most of us dont notice a big difference, but Piskie has ..........lets just say a very unique annoying version of vista that thinks the internet is a myth to be avoided at all costs.

I know what she is on about - but I think atm she's the only one suffering from troubles getting on this site. When there is a general slow down there's normally a thread started about it.

Whatever it is, something's slowing it down. Couldn't get on earlier, but it's better now.

I have a question for our resident Pooter buff (BrideXIII) if she's listening;

"How come I have started getting emails from someone with MY EXACT email address?"

Now I'm not working, I don't email stuff to myself anymore, so I never open them, just strikes me as strange...

I'd love to learn more about all this - strange for someone who was totally anti-computer when first given one...

Thing is...when these are posted [not having a go or anything] you are increasing the chances of peeps going in and looking on the contact info - and both of these have very naughty homepages...thus increasing the chances of them being clicked on - which is what they want.

And these 2 have homepages that really should not be clicked on.

It's a bugger innit...

well i haven't looked, but ............if your exact email address is on this site, or any other, and linked to your user name, its easy to find, have you tried googleing Glutton4? you might be shocked.

I use the same user name in every site i am on( don't google BrideXIII unless you have an hour or 10), some of these my email is public, in fact the one i use has to be, its a site admin addy, so its out there to be found.
check in the user cp, there shouldbe/might be the possbility of hiding your email addy.

if there isn't set up a googlemail or hotmail address that you only use for registering with forums, that way all the spam will go there, and they have their own virus filter built in to protect you, and because its third party, nothing reaches your hard drive.

EDIT: i just looked, your email address is in your profile on this site, once its here, its everywhere as far as google is concerned.when you say its not your 'real one' have you got an alias set up somewhere that forwards mail? i have several of these set up so that mail from all my sites comes to a central reserve and then is accessed by outlook.

Thing, I've got four different email addresses that I use for different things. Only because it helps me keep things tidy! My regular one, that I use for eBay/friend/family, is not the one I use for this site. It's my regular one that I'm getting the messages on.

I only view my messages on the server (been caught out before), and if using, say, Yahoo, it shows the email address if you hold the cursor over the name. I still don't understand how the sender's email address can be the same as mine?

ok thats a toughy, or not

depends on what the emails say, if they are an automated respose you have a loop somewhere.
if they are proper spam, they are faked headers, which means someone is using your address ( not your fault) to send spam, and you are receiving one as well.

They're nearly always in my junk/spam folder, but I'm getting 3 or 4 a day now. It's not a problem, it just buggs me!

well at least you filter is picking them up and dumping them, without knowing what they say, i cant help, there is no danger in opening one as long as you dont open an attatchment connected to it.

you know you didn't send it to yourself, assume its a header hijack, and ignore it, there is not a lot you can do if it is, and its not your fault.
