    Small Change

    Unless you are in business where do you get change from. I tried the bank and the post office on saturday to get a bag of change for a float for a car boot sale and I couldnt get any, I only wanted £20, in the end I kept buying small things in shops and using a note to get some change.
    Appently the banks and post offices charge their regular businesses for this service.

    I took both my kids money boxes to the local bank...about £40 in each in small coins. I'd separated them into 1p/5p..etc etc so they could be weighed to check the amount, and esp went at a quiet time of the day.
    They did sort it out for me but said they don't normally do that anymore, but being such a valued customer() they'd do it as a one-off!

    ...Do you have friends/neighbours with kids who might be happy to swap their small change????

      I always used to be able to get coins changed up, but now, you actually have to pay the money in to get them to accept it in coin bags now. Never tried to get change for a car boot that way though.

        I save small change, the idea being that it gets converted into pocket money for the grandchildren. Copper goes into one jar, 5ps into another, and if I'm feeling flush then 10ps and 20ps go into another. Who do you bank with? I bank with Lloyds TSB, and they've always been very good supplying change when needed, and also letting me bank it.

          The trick is to cash a cheque at your bank (remember those funny pieces of paper), write on the back the list of denominations and amounts

          £5 10.00
          £1.00 10.00
          50p 2.00
          20p 2.00
          10p .60
          5p .40
          ---------------
          25.00

          And they have never argued with me. You would notice that when you cash a cheque, they always have to put down on the back how they paid it out. Presumably for balancing the till at the end of day.
          I am certain that the day my boat comes in, I'll be at the airport.

            Hi
            If you collect your small change together you can either wait ages while you get the required amounts to present for notes or you can use the machine in Sainsburys. It does take a cut but you can just take all your small change along, tip it in the machine and it prints out a receipt as a credit note. I think you can get this swopped for cash but I used my £28 to get some "free" shopping that day.
