Default Slimy Scare

Found an article on the BBC international version and thought that a quick summary would make us all think.

It seems as the if the wet weather has caused a population explosion of SLUGS (as if we didn't know) and if it continues they could reach plague proportions They eat twice their body weight in a day! Judging by the size of the slugs I have found I am suprised that there is anything left. Even the Chickens have had so many that they refuse any more!

It is estimated that there are 15 BILLION slugs in the UK with an average of 61 per sq m, 50% up on last year. for those of you gardening in Gloucestershire there are estimated to be 100 per sq ft

Is it time we all gave up the battle or just plant double the quantity for the slugs with a little for us?

I heard Hugh Fearlessly-Eatsitall on Radio 4 yesterday talking about this. He was asked if slugs were edible and he said that he wouldn't eat them, and there's not much he won't eat

He did say that the best way to reduce the population was the old moonlit stroll with a bucket and a pair of secateurs.

I heard that story on BBC radio yesterday... Perhaps we should all be buying shares in the nematode companies - next years biggest seller?!

I have some slugs on my allotment but I think the frogs keep them under control.
I put a small pond on my allotment earlier this year and the frogs soon moved in.I find frog all over & not just near the pond.

15 billion slugs??? Think I'm going to have a nightmare tonight! ... I stabbed a huge orange one with my bean cutting knife last night, OH wasn't amused when asked to remove it!! They seem to be getting bigger by the day.
