  • Slight cock up on the veg front?

Lol! Wasn't expecting all this cold weather and frozen ground - not dug our carrots or parsnips for xmas dinner yet...what do I do if there's no thaw?

In same boat with parsnips, think i might have to chissel them out of the ground come FRIDAY morning. Just let the dog out and it is snowing again

I have been telling MiL she is having home grown parsnips. If there is no thaw I am stuffed

I dug up all my carrots and a few parsnips and froze them a couple of weeks back. How smug? And we aren't even having a roast on Christmas day

You could try putting a plastic cloche or fleece over the ones you want to dig.

Or just pour some water over them, if that is possible [ie not on a lottie with no water]......

Ask her to go and get them-you can always say freshly dug is the best that's why you waited till the last minute

If on a lottie, would it be worthwhile taking a flask or two of hot water to pour over them or would this not work.

We've had ice and snow for the last few days, but I did a bit of digging a couple of days ago and it was only the top quarter inch that was frozen. Dont know if the fact its a raised bed makes any difference?
