  • Sin binning grapes instead of banning completely?

One of the forums I visit has a cantankerous auld git (bit like mesell really) but he is well loved and respected throughout the community and has posted for years.
He was working himself the other day, but instead of banning him the Mods sent him to the 'sin bin' for a week to cool down.
I got to thinking, in some cases, would that not be a good idea for the vine?

Two strikes and you're out seems a much fairer solution in some cases, than an instant ban!

Ok, there will always be some toerags who from the start are just troublemakers and probably need banning, but there are others, like myself, who should be given the benefit of the doubt if they get tanked up on boose and make a fool of themselves!

May I just add that I don't drink, don't take drugs (boring b/stard really) but do realise that SOMETIMES (not recently I hasten to add) I do wind people up...............

You Snadge? Wind people up? Who dear? Not me dear. I can't think of any who've been banned who would have benefitted from a week in a sin bin, I think they would have come back with a vengeance!

From personal experience I would say the existing system works bud

There's a couple of times where grapes who have given a lot to the vine, have posted interestingly but have found themeselves banned because they wouldn't 'back down' on a topic they felt strongly about. If they were given a week to cool down and see the error of their ways, they could possibly still be posting today.
Lets be honest, some of the threads where people have been banned were the more interesting ones!!!!!!

            For you maybe.

On the topic; grapes who are banned are very rarely banned as a matter of course. There is usually a 'wind yer neck in' - 'chill out eh?' type to and fro PM exchange before it gets to banning. We just don't tell people about it.

You're on a wind-up aren't you Snadge? Now the nights are drawing in, you're getting a bit bored?

I don't know the answer there Snadge, for my part the first rule break was due to me not actually reading the rules before posting, the second was for (sort of) circumventing a rule which was initially done under the influence of cold "medicine" & further by my strange sense of humour. On both occasions I received a polite PM from a Moderator advising me about the error of my ways.
Both times genuine apology was send back by PM & appropriate corrections applied.
Other specific's I cannot comment on,but I would imagine that a ban is only applied after all other avenues have been explored

As Zaz said there is a lot going on behind the scenes before an existing grape ever gets banned. To be honest an established poster would get cut some slack anyway.
You fancy some time in the sin bin then snadge?

Just read back after posting & found this,as you will have seen I can attest to the above being factual

I've NEVER had a 'Mod on my back'...................yet! Good for them if they give polite PM's before hitting the 'BAN' button...................I didn't know that! (More to this modding than meets the eye)
Ah well................thats another fine mess I've got myself into!

Yep & all us sinners appreciate slack being given at the end of the day rules is rules,to be honest it is not hard to stay within the few that are enforced on here
