Default Showtime!

Well thats me bag packed with all the stuff for the Craft and Produce Show, and the jam jars (nicely decorated with napkins) sitting in the kitchen awaiting the cutting of the nasturtiums, pansies (I forgot about those!) and my four annuals in the morning. Gale force winds forecast again tomorrow so I'll need to get out and cut them early.

Had a quick squint at the beans, but nothing of a uniform length in the runners and the french beans are growing really curly again. The outside peas look like they've been devastated by some deadly disease and the strawberries sadly finished. Onions, green as anything, so no hope of dressing them and my cabbages are so big and blousy I can't think there would be a table big enough for them! Leeks still like pencils (and they want three) and no other budding vegetable at a decent size to pick. My potatoes are WONDERFUL, but theres no class for potatoes

Och well, I'll try the produce section another time.

Boy its hard work this show stuff. How did you manage to bake four cakes Hazel!

This is my first event at showing, so I will undoubtedly learn masses. Normally for me "showtime" means a musical or panto on the stage, but I don't think I'll win any prizes tomorrow by going in singing "There's no business, like show business!

I am also entering my local show on monday, my first ever effort. I'm entering 5 onions grown as show, heaviest potato (grown huge by accident) and longest runner bean. I was also entering 3 parsnips but they have gone very 'weird' since i pulled them and washed them.

good luck Jennieatkinson with your produce.

Good luck Seasprout - sounds like you've got some good entries.

Well it was all a bit of a panic this morning trying to cut flowers in an increasing wind, but I managed to find some which weren't too mangled. Everything got to the Town Hall on time, but my plans of laying everything out very nicely (I've spent hours agonising how I would display a particular item), it was taken from me and just put on the table! Oh well, I suppose that means everyone gets a fair chance and nobody hogs the table!

Will be there with the camera at 11 tomorrow to see the judging and of course the other entries. Someone came through the door with an enormous cabbage, considerably bigger than she was! Quite a funny sight given the windy conditions and the huge door on the Town Hall, which is not easy to open at the best of times.

Good luck Jennie. Let's know how you get on. It's a bit like the virtual show. The best of everythings been eaten before the show. You can do it - we've seen some great stuff,

I've finally managed to get my photos onto the pc - batteries went dead last night and only just managed to find a shop open for "camera" batteries. Not too sore a head this morning

Hope you don't all think this is showing off, but it 's lovely to share it all with you.

The trophies were:

Most points in the Arts & Crafts Section (I was staggered at this one)
1st (SWRI 90th Anniversary Card), 1st (Any Other Craft), 2nd (Item from recycled materials), 3rd (Wooden Article), Highly Commended (Jewellery)

Most outstanding Exhibit in the Arts & Crafts Section (that one bowled me over completely!)
for my Memories Book of Fair Isle

Chairmans Choice (again completely bowled by this one as it is her choice from the whole show - and it was a big show!)
for SWRI 90th Anniversary Card

I also got a third in the Nasturtiums and another 3rd and Highly Commended in the Knitting. Another time I will try items in the produce section - mine would not have been anything up to the scratch of the other entries, but at least now I know how things are presented, like onions, carrots, etc.

Some photos to give you a flavour. These two were taken at the show:

showtime-2007_0826swri070001.jpg showtime-2007_0826swri070003.jpg

And these at home:

Thanks too for all your best wishes!

Best wishes and good luck to you Seasprout - let us know how you get on.

It does make you nervous doesn't it! I don't think I'll get the bug Sue and look for another show! I couldn't cope with the stress!
