  • Show virgin

Until today, I had never entered any class at any veg show.

Today however I lost my show virginity and can, after judging, still show my face.

I bagged 3 firsts. 2 seconds, a third and two unplaced.

Happy you bet, especially as I grow stuff to eat, not to show.

Alas I am in the south of France topping up my crackling, otherwise I would give it a go.

Well done you for having a go.

Out of interest what classes were you able to win with stuff grown for eating, not for showing?
Round here 2 or 3 serious show growers win everything and few others bother to compete!

Our rhubarb destroyed the field, we also bagged red cards for beetroot and tomato. The seconds were cucumbers and currants, the third for plums. We were no placed with potatoes and damsons.

...which is why 2 or 3 growers win everything...!

My policy is to grow to eat, but whatever I have ready at entry time gets bunged in - our show is tomorrow (wish me luck!) and by the time I filled in the form, I found that I have 20 entries.

I haven't got loads of good stuff, but some classes don't get many entries, so you stand a good chance of something (remembering my notable 3rd for my marble cake a couple of year ago - out of three entries... )

Well done, Piggy - I'm surprised it took you this long to enter, and I bet you do more next year...
