  • Serious Addiction

    I have a serious addiction.

If I'm not in the garden or on the lottie doing it, I'm talking about it, reading about it on all manor of websites, printing stuff, planning and writing about it or reading books about it, watching it on TV or visiting the GCs. I can't get enough! You all know what I'm talking about ... growing, caring for and harvesting stuff.

I get so excited when I see all the perennials poking through the earth, I can hardly contain myself.

Last week, my other half and 2 kids were elbowing each other out the way to get the seeds in the pots! My addiction is affecting my family ... I just need a bigger garden to feed my addiction. Just one more bed, I promise and that'll be it.

Does anyone else feel like this?

LOL, welcome to the vine and we are all addicts too. Me I'm also a cooking addict along the same lines, if not (re-)reading cookbooks it's veggie books. My family haven't been infected (unfortunately) they all reckon I'm mad and I'm sure I've seen rolled eyes from His Lordship when I when our friends visit that are also chook/GYO addicts and we get on the subject

Welcome to the Vine GG. You know I am quite glad my husband and sons havent got the growing bug with me. As long as they are around and willing to help me with the occaisional heavy stuff and lifting I quite like pootling about on my own.
Dont talk to me about needing more space though, Mr H wont let me dig up any more

You're in good company!! I'm exactly the same. There are books and magazines lying all over the house and every morning I go into the garden to see what's growing. Spring is coming.

You'll be ok...one more bed...that's just a minor habit. As you spiral into full addiction it becomes 'just one more allotment'

Yes.... brought the extra freezer, fitted walls of bookshelves and extra kitchen cupboard just for the seeds...let alone the 10 year jam and pickle library!!!

Used to go to bed early with Mrs P...now she's jealous of GYO mag! She gets to pick, peel and wash mountains of produce bless her. Infact for half the year we can't watch telly without a tray/bowl of peas to shuck or berries to de-stalk etc on our laps

Apart from the 'can we go yet' thing kids generally enjoy it. They are very knowledgeable and I know that they will one day use that experiance!...it is a deeply enbedded addiction this veg growing

I'm so glad I'm not alone. Been at the allotment for last 5 hours and just sitting down with a well earned coffee (and magazine of course). Don't know if we can mention other mags, but this one (?) has details of a new varieties seed trial.

We've even branched into wildlife now too. Hubby made a hedgehog house last autumn, and put up a new nest box last weekend which was being checked out by bluetits after just 2 days. Need to make some more homemade seed/fat cakes with the kids (if I let them help that is).

Cooking addict - yes that's me aswell (and the family). My friend made some whiskey seville marmalade yesterday and it's lovely. Need to defrost some of last year's chillis to make some more chilli jam as this has now all gone.

It's definitely very contagious, this bug... be careful.

I have know idea but I'm having great fun finding out!
