  • Selling Jam?

OK, as you may know, I make a LOT of jams/jellies/butters/curds etc...

I tend to use these for presents/bartering etc, and also sell them to friends/colleagues etc.

However, I have been approached by someone at work who is organising a christmas fayre type event (a one off), and wants to know if I want a stall.

Whilst I have more than enough produce to stock a stall (!!), I was wondering about the legalities of doing so. I'm not a registered food producer, and haven't got any food hygiene qualifications.

Would I be OK to sell at a one-off event, or would I need to get all sorts of certificates to do this?

I was told by the place I volunteer at, that you can sell your preserves up to 5 times a year before you need a certificate/hygine course etc.

We had a home produce sale at work for charity and I don't think anybody had permits but that doesn't mean we shouldn't have done

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Dunno about that one, I'd just think it was a typo

I read on t'internet that........as long as you are not cooking five days or more a week , as long as its not a regular thing , as long as you're not supplying a shop (eg running a business) then apparently ok. Also I think I read somewhere that you need to put homemade on the label ...
So if you sell at the occasional carboot or craft fair then you should be ok..........I'm sure they don't go and check all the kitchens of the ladies from the WI.

Well, I've had a look on my local council and county council websites and cannot find anything to do with selling any sort of food.... which is typical... apparantly Env. Health only deals with pest control... I may make some phone calls later....
