  • Selling alpine strawb plants - how much?

I am clearing out a bed ready to sow cutting flowers in it. It has loads of alpine strawb runners growing merrily in there at the moment, so I thought I might pot them up and sell them to raise some dosh towards the stuff I need for this year.

How much would be reasonable to ask? Obviously I need to cover the cost of pots but not much else.

I would tend to ask 2½ times the cost of the pot, or 'cost of pot and compost, plus £1', whichever is the greater. If cost of pot and compost is really small £1 each might be fine.........

Cheers Hilary, that is a big help. Think I will try £1 for the bigger plants and 50p or so for the wee ones. The spread like wildfire and I always give away clumps in late summer. Just decided to try selling a few this time.

Just wish I was close enough. I would be buying a few at those prices!

I tried selling some at a car boot on sunday I started at 95p per plant and didnt sell any so I kept reducing them still not one sold so I put them at 65p each or 3 for £1.50 not one was sold. In the local market they are 95p each and in the garden centres about £1.50p each. Hope you have better luck than me lol. I also had other plants and only sold a few I came home and put them on the garden wall and a lady walked past and bought 3 osteospurmums (sp )

I've just bought 4 at £1.85 each - biggish pots though.

Nice thought, but safe wrapping would lead to prohibitive postage costs!

I am prepared to give it a try (if you can wait a few days for me to save up for stamps)

Two sheds gave me some advice about wrapping plants she puts them in damp paper in a plastic sandwich bag then insisde a plastic bottle ( cut off bottom ) wrap in brown paper or jiffy bag label as live plants and post. I dont think I have left anything out, I am sure she will notify me if I have lol.

Jackie, I obviously went to the wrong car boot sale! If you still have any strawberry plants I will happily buy them from you. P.M. me
