  • Scars

In line with the thread on organ donation, somebody mentioned about scars. So, who's got what interesting scars? Me, I've got a mis-shapen pupil because I put a tyre lever through my glasses when changing a tyre. Seven pieces of glass in my eye, and thanks to a brilliant surgeon, still got the eye, though with about 70% (blurred) vision.

I have many scars on my fingers from dog bites, knife cuts etc.

A sickle shaped scar under my bottom lip where I fell down some steps as a toddler, and my teeth went right through.

I dented scar under my nostrils, where I was tube-fed for a fortnight.

I have a tear-drop shaped one from left wrist to left elbow (skin graft and vein removal)
and a U-shaped scar starting under my left ear, touching my collar bone and finishing up under my chin (lymph gland removal).

I've never bothered to cover them up, or been self conscious about them, and most people don't notice them unless I point them out.

Oh, and I also have a bionic tongue: made out of my left arm

I've never broken a bone though

I've got a short bent finger and sunken knuckle, due to being kicked by a Horse, but nothing to compare with this freak show LOL!

I am relatively scar free compared to you lot

I have small gouged out bits on the inside of my wrists, elbows, back of hands and legs where my veins kept collapsing when had misdiagnosed ectopic and they had to keep finding new veins

One about 6" long down from my left knee where I had a metal plate put in to sort a broken leg, one on my right ankle to enable the bone to be tied back together, a small one on the back of my right hand where a dropped a hatch on it on site and various other smallish ones on all sorts of parts of my body, including general cut ones and old ones from measles as a kid. On the whole they don't bother me although the one on the ankle is accompanied by a lot of scar tissue which can make some shoes / boots difficult to wear.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

I love scar stories: so do the kids at school. There's a bloke in the pub who beats me though: someone put an axe in the back of his head. Terrific scar.

My uncle has a shark bite scar on his left arm (that's what he used to tell me when I was a kid: I don't know what it really was).

Amazing how we can be stitched up & put back together, isn't it?

11" scar running from my left shoulder down my back which was the entry point for the operation to straighten my spine with two 1" scars parallel to the main one which were where the lung drain tubes went in, apparently after 13 hours of surgery you get quite a build up of fluid that needs removing but it even surprised me to see them taking a buckets worth of fluid away ever 8 hours.

                    Okay, in historical order:
Tiny scar on knee where I fell off my tricycle as a child.
Small scar on left cheekbone where 'friend' tripped me over at school and I crashed into a table with my face.
Big dent in left shin where I ejected myself from a fast moving horse whilst going over a jump (I say 'jump' but actually it was only a cavaletti!! On the lowest setting!! How embarrassing). Kizzy clonked me with her hoof as she tried to avoid me.
One more scar just under left thumbnail continuing round inside of thumb to the pad, where I tried to chop my thumb off with a Stanley knife at Art College.

Soon I shall have a few more as I'm due to have an operation in the next couple of months, but by keyhole surgery, so they should only be tiny.

P.S. Do you realise we should all be able to recognise one another at Grapestock just by our scars - no need for introductions now!!

The largest concentration of scars are atop my head. Can't imagine why.

I've got a missing piece in my right shin, and very messy looking right elbow from a motorbike crash; 2 small scars near the belly button from keyhole surgery; a big 'smile' scar lower abdamon from other gynae work, an internal to just external scar from yet more gynae stuff; a pretty long ugly scar down the outside of my right leg/ankle, a shorter one on the inside of same, and a horseshoe shaped one on the heel of same all from broken ankle. And lastly, a chicken pock right in the middle of my chest

My dad beats all from the massive scars he has front and back from his osophogeal cancer, plus more across his chest from heart surgery.

i love scar stories, mainly beacuse I don't have many myself

                              also in chronological order

scar through my eyebrow (where sis threw knife at me!)

perfectly round scar on thigh (sis again - shot me with bamboo bow and arrow)

inch long scar on top of head when scaffold board fell on me

circle of scars around my knee when i fell on a glass bottle whilst being a bit tired and emotional at a party

star shaped scar on finger tip from screwing my finger to piece of wood whilst holding it

pretty boring compared to some of the others, but keep 'em coming
