I have noticed that there are lots of rosehips in the hedgerows, and got to wondering if I picked some ripe hips and saved the seeds will they produce new wild rose bushes?
Any advice welcome.

That's a great web article, think I will have a go, but may adapt a bit as I want them to grow in an inaccessible place, so may just save then scatter some the seeds in spring and see what happens.Comment

Sounds a good plan!...the more food for wildlife the better...and prettier hedgerows are always a pleasure to see!
They make a good barrier too to keep out unwanted visitors if carefully spaced!

Noticed at the bottom of the article that if the roses are wild roses it would be quicker to use cuttings.sigpicComment

And be sure to wash hands very well after handling the wild seeds, they're covered in tiny itchy hairs and if they get in your digestive system, you'll get yaself a case of itchy-bottom-disease. Can't be pleasant haha

Indeed when I was young it was a common autumn prank to collect the seeds from rose hips and drop them down the back of somebody's neck to make them itch for the rest of the day.Originally posted by jodzy View Post
