Apparently the only tranquilisers on-site were not quick acting enough... Very sad.
There shouldn't really be any way that a youngster could get into a zoo enclosure... you're probably not going to be able to stop a suicidal adult from finding a was in to a 'big cat' enclosure but...

Were the parents not supervising what their child was doing? I cannot understand how he managed to just fall into the enclosure. I feel so sad for the poor gorilla having to be shot dead.
LOVE growing food to eat in my little town back garden. Winter update: currently growing overwintering onions, carrots, lettuce, chard, salad leaves, kale, cabbage, radish, beetroot, garlic, broccoli raab, some herbs.

Yes, Marie - those parents seriously need reprimanding at the very least .....
(Personally I think they should be locked up ...)

Don't worry Susie, next week he will find their loaded gun in the car and accidentally shoot them.

Shouldn't they always have fast acting tranquillisers on site as a law of keeping these animals with customers being able to fall in to enclosures, that should be enclosed? Never short of bullets though are they,in a zoo you'd think they should have more tranquillisers ready for emergencies? Or other plans in place, like securing the enclosures. It's so sad!

I wonder what would have happened if the Gentle Giant had fallen on the rogue after being shot.

It is a horrible and sad situation and it would be lovely that something like this never happens again but there is no point trying to find someone to blame. It has happened and you are unlikely to ever know the full situation.

They shouldn't be in captivity in the first place.

It sort of agree with you BM however the problem is that zoos are (IMO) a really good way of introducing children to species of the world. Lots of kids wouldn't know what many animals were if it wasn't for zoos.

Lots of children growing up in London have never seen a chicken or sheep, let alone a gorilla. I'd like to think that zoos encourage little ones to become biologists/ zoologists who go on to conserve species in their wild habitats. The next David Attenborough as it were.

I adore all wildlife and have been on safari in Africa to see the most amazing sights, I've also spent a week at an Elephant sanctuary in Thailand, learning to be a mahout and looking after the baby orphans and more mature elephants that have been rescued. One of the best weeks of my life.

On my bucket list is a trip to Uganda to see the gorillas. I also adore orangutans and would love to spend some time at a sanctuary.
