A real character - RIP Sir Patrick. I like the way the report says that he passed on in the company of friends, carers and his cat, Ptolemy. That's the way to bow out

I thought when I saw him on TV last week that he looked very frail and grey lipped, usually a heart failure sign. He was one of life's more pleasant eccentrics who only had one true love. I rather loved that about him. A true gentleman!

Goodness...I think we must all have grown up with Sir Patrick Moore! He will be sadly missed indeed.

Working right up until the last minute, when you're 89, is danged good going!

O very sorry to hear about Sir Patrick. I too was brought up with him (The Sky at Night, wasn't it?) and he did make what could have been a very dull subject fun! He made me interested in it anyway. A real character and I will miss seeing him on tv.

So sad to hear one of the old school presenters has passed away. It was always refreshing to watch him and his passion for astronomy!

I've just read that he never married. His fiancée was killed in the war and he didn't want anyone else. That really is devotion. Incredibly romantic.

I also grew up with 'the sky at night'. A National Treasure lost. He did so much to popularize astronomy. Sadly missed.

Got an 'aww, no' as us three were sat in Pop's car whilst he had radio four on...he was the 'teddybear' to us.
