  • Rhona...

Okay, I going to publicly admit that your signature 'I don't roll on Shabbos', has me completely baffled! I have googled it, thinking I was missing something really obvious (I do live in the land that time forgot, after all...), but was no further forward, so please, enlighten me!

Ah... I've seen the film, but doesn't ring any bells - I really enjoyed it too! Have to pay more attention next time won't I!

Though I must warn you, if you have a thing about bad language watch it without sound - but by doing that you will miss the funny bits, of which there are several.

It's the Ashkenazic pronunciation of Shabbat, the seventh day of the week. I refuse point-blank to roll on it.

You mean it's in a film too?

I didn't realise you smoked to be honest. Every day's a school day.

Watching The Big Lebowski was absolutely one of the best cinema experiences ever. I saw it in a small arthouse cinema and the whole audience was in stitches throughout......absolutely brilliant.

I just had this unfortunate picture in my mind of one of those rag rugs, very much past its best before date, with Rhona point blank refusing to roll about on it.... Oh, I know, I know, but these things just spring to mind sometimes...

                I'll get my coat

Ah...I don't think that's such a crazy reference... the whole film hangs on the rug that ties the room together. The rug starts the whole thing.

The Dude: Also, my rug was stolen.
Cop: The rug was in the car?
The Dude: No. It was here.
Maude: [plays to the room on answering machine] Jeffrey, this is Maude Lebowski. I need to see you. I'm the one who took your rug.
Cop: Well. I guess we can close the file on that one.

Oh I do truly love that film.

What is the definition of "roll" in this context?

Bowling. Walter doesn't roll (bowl) on Shabbos, even in a league game.

Walter Sobchak: You know, Dude, I myself dabbled in pacifism once. Not in 'Nam of course.
The Dude: Then you know he's got emotional problems, man.
Walter Sobchak: You mean... beyond pacifism?

I won't quote anymore Big Lebowski unless given the slightest opportunity to do so.

You've intrigued me, never seen it but now I'm gonna watch it tomorrow.

Yes, it's all coming back to me now! Perhaps it was a subconcious thing.. I feel better now - and it's also made me need to see the film again...

Great idea btw, Hotstuff - enjoy!
