  • Revolting toilet question !!!!

because we have an really old house with a downstairs bathroom, we were told we could only have a bathroom upstairs if we had a "munching toilet system" crocodile i call it !! so that`s what we have upstairs but its revolting its been in a couple of years, but if you flush the toilet or use the sink it comes up the shower !!! hence we dont use it ! i clean it twice a week but cleaning the sink and toilet comes up the shower ! so i have to bale the shower out with a bucket and jug ! as anybody else had the same problem ?

I wanted one for one of my bedrooms but was advised against one because we have a septic tank.
I did a lot of research before hand and didn't come across any complaints like that!!!

To be honest- I'd say it's not been fitted correctly.
Have you had anyone in to look at it? ( someone who is used to fitting them?)

It really shouldn't do that. You need to complain to whoever fitted it (and should have done a long while ago). I believe they are known as macerators, and are used so that you can use smaller pipes to get rid of the waste instead of the usual wide soil pipes. Either way it shouldn't come up through anything.

Any time we survey a house with one of these things, we check for this problem. It nearly always means that the installer hasn't followed the manufacturer's instructions!

My friends have one of those in their loft conversion . Trouble is her daughters put stuff down they shouldn't and it blocked up. After her OH got in a right old mess sorting it out he told them it was still broken ,lasted for months before he let on it was fixed.

                  it sounds like it's
1 wrong type of unit fitted
                  2 fitted wrong
3 non return valve not working inside the unit

most of the manufactures have technical help line or can put you
in touch with a local service engineers

or you could have the shower and sink waste pipe removed from the macerator
and a 40mm waste pipe run to an outside wall then down to a drain

Thanks for all your replies ! the dam thing is coming out ! we have been advised by a plumber we can have a normal toilet in, if the toilet is on a step / raised platform so its higher than the soil pipe, why the plumber who did the bathroom in the first place didnt suggest this i dont know ! thankfully we still have a few boxes of the floor tiles left.

I presume it's a macerator style thing, you shouldn't have any of the problems you've had so I'd be contacting the original builder to get him to sort it / pay for it to be sorted.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Glad you're getting it sorted. It must have been a real trial!
