    Read all about it; "well known supermarket is selling ugly fruit"

    "Weather marked fruit is just as tasty as cosmetically perfect fruit".

    Is this news to anyone here? Surely, this is something we have always known. And Uglyveg Curry is a staple in my house.

    Obviously fewer peeps have more money than sense these days. Supermarkets wouldn't be doing it for any other reason.

    I've never particularly understood the need for a perfectly symmetrical, gorgeous looking fruit - sure it's got to resemble what it's named, but aside from that - so long as it tastes good, your stomach doesn't care how it looks

      Any blemishes are cut off my veg and the rest is used with the blemished bits going on "the heap". Some shops even selling "dirty carrots" which of course aren't dirty at all, just covered in soil. Supermarkets are sales driven and the shopper(nearly said housewife ops) will almost always go for the most attractive looking produce. That's not totally surprising but the discerning shopper will know what is best value.

        Initially I thought "Ugly Fruit" was some sort of tropical fruit that I'd never heard of and was about to rush out to buy some. Then I realised that I have plenty here already.
        Are they selling it any cheaper than the Beautiful fruit? Will Ugly become the norm eventually? I hope so!

          One of the supermarkets sells their funny looking stuff for cooking with ie lopsided strawberries are "for jamming" - they taste the same for goodness sake, it's is stupid and another reason not to use supermarkets

            I'm lucky in that I don't have to buy fruit and veg in supermarkets, we have a fairly local greengrocer.

              To be fair I don't buy veg at all

                  Buy a lot of fruit though so not exactly self sufficient

                      Makes me laugh when I see fruit or vegetables with the label, "Grown For Flavour".
                      What else should they be grown for?
