  • Raining

Chucking it down in North Devon - hopefully won't get the thunderstorms that the Met Office are warning about.
Water butts are filling up and the frogs seems happy. Probably has more in the last two hours than we had in the whole of June.

Guess I'll just watch a bit of football indoors...

I hope it travels up to me! Boiling hot here - I can't garden in this weather either - and the ground is desparate for a drink. I've lost some of my summer flowering plants I'm on a meter here so the only thing that gets watered is the GH once the butts are empty.

Same here, Scarlet - the plants' tongues are hanging out.
Sky looks dark over Somerset so hoping it crosses the Channel and reaches us soon. Otherwise, we'll be down at Baldy's asking him to fill our watering cans.

There's a breeze picking up - I have my fingers crossed. The Courget plants are all slumped and my bean leaves are burnt!

          Its raining....................not much.

I've filled all the watering cans with the remaining water in the butts and laid out all the trugs and buckets in the hope of catching some. Even brought my washing in.

There's that funny sulphurous smell in the air - and it has nothing to do with last night's broad beans.

Ohhh I love the smell before heavy rain, we've had 3 days with rain since first may bank holiday, its getting beyond a joke for the garden. It sounds bad to wish for rain but so far the weather is set fair here for at least the next two weeks according to the forecasters.
My father in law tripped up on the farm last week in a field and skinned his forehead open, it was hard not to laugh when he said it was the soil that cut his head open not a rock!

                    Balders -
Have you ever considered that sometimes (today being my case in point) you post a message that really does squeeze my non existant grapes?

You don't want a storm? Shame on you!

A year ago we were is a very severe drought. Now it's raining every couple of days. 1 1/2" in the rain gauge this morning. Forgot to empty it yesterday so that amount was from 2 rains. Yesterday afternoon/evening they got 10" of rain about 50 miles north. Flash flooded pretty bad.

After last year it's pretty nice to have plenty of rain.

'Spose I can't prove anything - I did take some photos of a new kitten/cat on the plot just now - doubt you'd take that as proof of rain. We had about 3 hours of pretty heavy rain - I'd say that we're not getting any more for a few days. Was just about enough for me to think that the plants in the ground might survive - still curtains for 50% of my pots when I head to the Midlands tomorrow. Froglets gave me a chorus (of splashing around) when I turned up this morning.

Same for us on the coast VC I put out a tray (for curiosities sake) just to see how much we would get.... 3 tablespoons full... Tskkk.... it wet the ground and dried up just as fast!

However I have had the most glorious day
I watered this morning in cloud and didn't sweat! I weeded and fed rows of plants without sweating! I harvested without sweating!

I erected the 'pop up' gazebo last week so at least I'd have somewhere to 'pot on' and 'prick out' without sweating!
Today I stood under it 'pricking out' whilst listening to the 'patter' of rain on the roof, in the cool without sweating!

P.S I should probably add that us Ladies don't sweat.... We just Glow

We've had the hopping on this week (which is a large travelling fair that comes every year). Traditionally it buckets down the week that's on but for the second year not a drop.

As I'm at work my mum went down and Watered yesterday.
