I love the idea, but as a guy who's never bought a music CD in his life (I just download), I probably won't join in. Love RATM though.

I enjoy a good rant, but the X factor is a fix as there is too much money at stake to risk the wrong person to win.

Stopped watching after all the weirdos auditioning finished.

I wonder how the chap who started it all off is feeling?
You can imagine it was one of those spur of the moment "just for fun" type things, that he thought possibly a handful of peeps would get involved in.....wonder if he really thought it would take off in such a huge way?
Let's hope it sets a precedent for future years.....I think regardless of whether you love or hate the Xfactor,it had taken away the anticipation of who'd be number One for Christmas.

Ollie, RATM won the number 1 spot entirely on downloads You do know that downloads count for the charts these days, right?

I bought it twice for 50p, once from each pooter I love the tune loads, but even if I hadn't I'd have still bought it. It's got to give hope to new bands seeing that real 'write it & play it yourself' music is preferred by a lot of people to the karaoke style stuff churned out by X-Factor.

Rubbish. His disappointment is what all other contenders for Number One have felt for the last 3 Christmases! Peter Kay's charity Christmas song was deliberately released a couple of weeks before so that it didn't get obliterated by XFactor! And just why should he expect to be Christmas number one?! It's not a right conferred on all X-Factor winners!
Joe sold just as many records as previous winners, and will probably be number one next week anyway...

Sorry SN. this is not really a rant at you, but more at the brain-washing that the Cowell has inflicted on the public.

Then maybe he'll work his little socks off to achieve it another year!
Plenty of artists dream of having a numer one at Christmas and in the past have put effort into producing a song they think fit for it & tirelessly promoting themselves in the lead up.
I'm not against The XFactor as a lot of people are...I think it has it's place in giving peeps the opportunity to get themselves noticed, but I do dislike the fact that by winning they should assume instant success.

I didn't realise he'd made his fortune Fi....I was one of the gullible ones that thought all the money went to Shelter!

I consider myself reasonably intelligent and dont believe that simon cowell has "brainwashed" me. I genuinely like Joe and think he is a great singer with a bright future. i also dont think he "expected" to be No 1 and it seems to me he HAS worked his socks off - I dont get up at 5.30am every morning for months on end for instance.........

My post was merely my own opinion - i wasnt trying to influence anyone......

I was aware, I've never paid for a download either. I had thought about doing it, but as I already have the song and was convinced Simon 'The Devil' Cowell was going to get his wicked way I just hadn't got round to it.
Very chuffed they made the Number One though. It's not just good for the band, it's a great message to people who think they can control the people that they can't.
It's funny, almost all of RATM songs would have had an appropriate message in them. E.g. 'Take the Power Back' or 'Wake Up' or 'Guerilla Radio'.

                              I agree with you there!

I would have liked a Christmas no 1 that my children could sing along with (in the car etc) but there is no way I am exposing them to the lyrics of the RATM song.
