Books went down well for our little one (similar age), and personally speaking I think educational items are much better than the countless toys they'll get, that'll never get a look in!!

I like the veg idea, get em started young! What about a spade set? Our little un had a spade, rake, and fork set with a duck on the other end for xmas - she loves it. (cheapo things - Amazon.com: Duck Garden Tool Set: Toys & Games like that (despite it being out of stock there) - no idea why its from 5+ - these were from 2+, as said she loves them and lobs dirt/soil all over the place with them. Oh, and strokes your hair with the rake, as well as anything she can get her hands on (worms, chickens, beetles, etc)

I always get the little ones books!

I've just had a look in the old toy box and everything is 3+

I think I'll go with a kids gardening kit - why I didn't buy one when I was at Ryton this week I'll never know...completely passed me by...

What about a DIY CAAAAAAKE kit? Try the Christmad Present ideas thread, someone had a guide of how to do it - bung all the ingredients in a pretty container, and print out the instructions to put on the side or inside, depending on the container!

                  Failing that, buy a Puppy!

I'm sure you could whip up some seed packets with bright piccies on the front...

I agree with Chris - we get through loads of books and love it when people buy more. For a two year old, try Julia Donaldson - Stick Man, Tabby McTat, Zog, or The Smartest Giant In Town. Or any of her books with Axel Scheffler illustrations - they're all great.

She got a dog - 2 cats and 2 baby brothers. Oh and a dozen chooks.

If I rocked up with a puppy I don't think me and her mum would be chums for much longer.
