  • Question to the runners please

I'm wondering about my breathing - having read that one chap tries to pace as breath in over three paces and out over three paces.

I sort of tried this today but found it too quick for me - so it got me wondering if I am trying to hard to breath deep and slowly?

If I am it may be me over-compensating for being aware of my asthma. Or am I in danger of over-complicating things?

Does he say why he does this?
The only time I consciously breathe differently is when I feel a stitch coming and then I make sure it's a proper belly depth breath....but then I'm far from being an experienced runner

I do this, i dont run alot - just free jogging on the wii fit a few times, because i'm a bit overweight.
Three steps on the 'in' then three steps on the 'out'.
It just seems easier, but then i have got quite bad asthma.

Run & breath at a rate that is in harmony with your physique & general state of health, the more you perform any task he more adept you will become

I would say not to try and fit breathing to your pace (e.g. the 3 steps thing). The more you run, the more you will find your own pace.

Thinking about it, I probably breathe on a 2-step pace, but it's not intentional; it's just how my breathing rhythm falls when I'm running

I've just been told that over-breathing could be a cause for stitch

Not that I run anymore! But you should try to take three footsteps while breathing in and then 2 when you breathe out (3:2) It may slow you down when you start but it will make it easier in the long run
