Default Quality forum

I am a member of several forums other than this one and have noticed that none of them have quite the same balance as this, which is why I dont really use them any more other than occasionally. They all tend to be either to pretentious or too chatty with little substance.

This seems to have the perfect balance of everything and I am not alone in this as 1700 of you agree. In addition the amount of people who are on line at any one time is far greater than other forums so threads move along nicely all day long and dont stagnate till the evening.

Webmasters just cannot buy this kind of usage and whilst a forum is only as strong as its members, a lot of credit must go to the It spods, Ben and Dave as well as the moderators for letting it be what it is, guiding it gently along without too much nannying.

Thank you all for a great resource and please dont change anything!

'It spods'???????

It is a good set-up for a messageboard though.

I do agree with your views about the forum, but I think that it's probably a lot to do with the moderation (which seems about right) - too much and its no fun, too little and a forum can be a cliquey and/or abusive place.

I agree, fortunately I came across this forum first - it's the first one I registered on and used regularly, but as well as excellent moderation I think it's got to do with the people who use it. Good humoured, encouraging for newbies, helpful, practical and such a tonic when you most need it. So often on these forums, as users are anonymous, they use it as an excuse for petty sniping which has put me off other forums. Here, you can ask daft questions and not get a snooty answer in reply.

Hurrah for the Grapes of the Vine!

You're right in all you say Piglet. I don't use any other forums but I have looked at some. They seemed to be just vacuous nonsense or people slanging each other off. Definately not for me. Here on the Vine you can feel the other grapes are your gardening friends and willing to help you. I think it's a great resource for all of us. So thank you to everyone who works to make it so - and I think that's everybody. Thank you all.

I agree, I stopped using other forums when threads don't move for hours. This one makes you feel part of a larger community.

I agree too, had not looked at other forums until today and I found the boring and unfriendly.

I think I will stick where I am if that's ok?

I am just so pleased to have found this forum. 8 years ago, when we went on the net at home my son tried to pursuade me to join forums (fora???) but I couldn't find anything that 'fitted'
I came across this site only in December when i googled Winemaking or Brewing or something, and jumped in straight away.
I really feel like I have found a 'Home on the Web' and am so grateful to all the grapes who have been so friendly, generous and tolerant.
Thank you one and all.
Long may it live.

Well said PW - completely agree with everyones comments! I haven't looked at any other forums - why should I? I enjoy the Vine so much and everyone is so friendly and helpful, I really appreciate the fact that I can ask (what I know other people would consider to be) silly questions, and I always get useful, "Bernie proof" answers - no need to go anywhere else! I agree with all of the above. Who else would have helped me out with floppy onions?? Also, thanks to The Vine, I'm off Willow coppicing on Friday & meeting up with another grape or two. I've learnt so much and know that no matter how daft my problem is, I just have to ask and someone knows the answer or someone else has the same prob so I can just look up the solution. Thanks so much!
