  • Proposed postage price increase

I read with astonishment and dismay that the Royal Mail intends to increase the price of a 2nd class stamp from the current 36p to 55p from April.

Surely this is something the government must intervene to stop as this outrageous price-hike bears no relation to the present rate of inflation and will hit hard pressed small businesses, and those people, dare I say mainly the older generation, who still rely on post as their usual means of communiction.

Write to your MP today and demand that the increase is kept in line with the general RPI/CPI

I've always thought they've been driving it into the ground so it's ripe for privatisation

Thanks for the head up Adam. I send on average 50 2nd class letters a month so it will make a difference to my costs.

M.P. should recieve e-mail when he switches on his putor.

He's sick of me. I've been banging on about post office queues since they shut our small branch POs. You usually have to queue for 10-30 mins now, it's shocking. Your whole lunch hour, gone.

Stock up on stamps? Blimey, I think I'll start using my childhood stamp collection. They are still fine to use as they are all 'unused'.

Can you imagine the envelopes? They will be covered in 3p, 4p, 5p stamps!
Whether you think you can or whether you think you can't, you are probably right.

You may remember that in my original post I urged you to contact your MP about the proposed postal cost increases.

I contacted my MP and his reply is copied below:

"Thank you for your recent email concerning proposals to increase Royal Mail postage costs which, as you may know, has also been criticised by a House of Commons committe which has oversight of Royal Mail's work.

I confirm that I have taken up this matter on your behalf with the Minister concerened and as soon as I have his reply will contact you again, yours sincerely, Sir Stuart Bell MP"

Once again may I urge all Grapes to contact their MP and voice concern about these proposed price increases.
