  • The problem of planning ahead....

    I was making grand plans of sowing chillies and tomatoes early next season, Jan or Feb to have a few early ones ready so I would be able to stretch out the season.

    Then I remembered. We're going away for 2 weeks in the beginning or March, to get married. Which is fine if you're a normal person but a really bad idea because then I start thinking of everything that I can start sowing and I feel really annoyed about going away in March.

    OH thinks I've gone insane and nowt be wrong to start when we get back.

    So;

    Sow a few in Feb
    sow a handful just before you go

    Put all these into the bath, with wet towels underneath for the fortnight.

    sow some when you get back.

    I sowed chilis when I got the parcel in March and they have caught up with the ones sown a month or two earlier.

      If you've got small seedlings in 'modules' find a ginormous poly-bag, put the watered (and drained) container of seedlings inside the bag, not-quite-seal it and leave somewhere cool, but frost-free, light, but not sunny. It will almost certainly be OK for a couple of weeks, and if the worst happens, you can always sow some more when you get back!
      One year I had dozens of tomato seedlings at the '4 true leaves' stage when we were going away. They were trying to get out of the propagator (I had left the vents closed, but it wasn't sealed) when we got back, but they all survived (at that stage).
      Flowers come in too many colours to see the world in black-and-white.

        thank you so much!!

        That's calmed me right down. I was late planting this year and wanted to catch up next year. That should sort some of the problems
