  • Pooter died, then resurrected

I think I am cursed ... own up, who was it?

Just everything is going wrong at the moment ~ well, has been for weeks actually

Today, my laptop died. I logged off the Vine at about 9.30am, put it on standby as usual ... and it wouldn't come back.
None of the keys would work, Control Alt Delete wouldn't work, the ON/OFF button wouldn't work ... nuffin.

So I decided to unplug it and run the battery completely flat.

It worked! Took 5 hours though. Any idea what went wrong? It's never done that before. I haven't done anything different, and I haven't been looking at anything dodgy!

PS. I texted Mr Sheds to tell him pooter had died, so he sent me the details of a repair man round the corner ... by email

          That made me laugh!

Pressing and holding the power button should work. If not, rather than wait for the battery to run down you could just take it out... There should be a couple of clips or screws on the bottom of the laptop, just undo them, lift out the battery, wait ten seconds and replace. Used to have to do that with my old iBook.

you know what? i have been dead jealous for years of all my friends/family that have laptops................ and you all seem to have nothing but trouble with them?

i am supposed to be saving for one this year, i think i may skip it and just get a new tower.

A bit like the idiotic recorded message from BT if you ring them to tell them of a broadband fault, "did you know, you can report this fault online....."

Secondly its not good for lapdogs to be left on standy when plugged in to the mains. 1. It shorthens the battery life 2 it dosen't let the componets cool.

But cos you are a Vine...next time it happens push the on off button and hold for 8 seconds and it will go off then reboot.

Yes, because I dip in and out all day, not just the Vine, but work type stuff ...

anyway thanks for the 8 second rule. I only held the OFF button for 5 seconds, and it didn't work
