  • POI in Huntingdon area?

Hello my little mountain of info! OK, you can tell I want sommat can't you? LOL

Me and my DH, and possibly some friends, are planning a weekend away with our caravans (yup, saddos!) and were thinking about Huntingdon area for a change.

Anyone have any suggestions on places of interest to visit in that area? I'm 'googling' too, but I find personal recommendations are always better. Thanks in advance.

Um..........I lived there for a couple of years and I'm struggling.

Wood Green Animal Shelter is good if you like animals and wind turbines. Has a nice little cafe.

There's Grafham Water which is nice for a good walk.

I used to go to Cambridge for anything of interest.....

We used to live in Huntingdon, moved to Co Durham about 6 years ago. Grafham Water near Perry is good for walking/cycling. I think there is a small campsite there too. The Imperial War Museum at Duxford is about 40mins away, as is Wimpole Hall and Home Farm (National Trust), and Cambridge is interesting but very busy. Hinchingbrooke Country Park was a good place to walk around, plenty of marked paths. Hope you enjoy your stay.

Crikey G4 ALs right, there's only a race course at Huntingdon and that's about it...

..Isn't there the animal testing place too - Huntingdon Life Sciences - that's always getting carbombed by the animal rights?...Not sure it would be a fun day out though

If you come to Cambridge come to my house and I'll make you a nice brew and you can meet the chooks.

Don't know much about Huntingdon really: it's supposed to be very pretty and I think it has a river going through it and a market but not sure what else. If you're wondering away Newmarket is good for a days racing (but expensive I think, just getting in and then food/drinks).

I recommend a punt on the river Cambs, even if it's cold. They'll take you down the river and you'll see the backs of the colleges and it's far less busy. Also, use the park and ride, much easier and cheaper than trying to park in city centre. There are shed loads of places to eat and drink in the town centre too so definitely worth a visit.

              P.S.
You don't know a couple called Angela and Ivan do you?

I used to live in Huntingdon and still have family there. Its not that bad

Godmanchester has the flood meadows which are nice to walk around, and there is a nice Rec ground. If you head towards Brampton you will see signs for Brampton Mill which is a restaurant (Beefeater type), but is also a lovely old building on a nice stretch of the river.
Huntingdon Garden and Leisure worth a look on the road to St Ives!!

Cromwell museum on the high street near Market Square.
Admittedly, I spent more time in pubs as I was a single lass when I still lived at home!! Could recommend several

When you going, I am over there most weekends at the mo seeing Dad and my sister and her kids.

Hi Lizzy Hun would love to meet up if we come to Cambridge, but unfortunately it's not only my decision. I do love Cambridge especially the architecture, although I have never been punting there (yet!).

The only Angela and Ivan I know are brother and sister!

Hi Kirsty we'll be staying at Brampton Mill, been there before, about 3 years ago, and the pub is one of the attractions even though it is a 'theme' pub. The tow-path walk along the canal is absolutely fab. We're probably going last weekend of October.
