  • Please can I have a rant.........and a sob

week before christmas a cat got hit outside my house, and i had to cover it up as the schoolkids were walking by, someone had hit it and left it to die, it had only just died as it was still warm. I knocked on a few doors in my road as I didnt know who owned it. to cut a long story short it was a lady round the corner, whos 3 little kids had the cat. I was absoltely distraught... a week before christmas a swell.

tonight coming home from work on a main road a staffy was in the road, dragging its back legs and flipping all over the place screaming absolutley screaming... so i threw my hazards on and stopped, then suddenly the boy whos dog it was appeared absolutley distraught shouting '2 cars have just hit my dog'. so i got hold of the dog by the side of the road, told the boy to calm down and come over and let the dog hear his voice for a second, i then told him to go get his mum as they lived on the road, I shouted for someone who was walking by to help me but the just walked by and said NO!

Im not overly confident with big dogs, but I had it on the floor with my jumper and scarf wrapped rpund it, me virtuaally laying over it to keep it warm and stop moving, an ambulance stopped and gave me a heat blanket, it took the boy maybe 3-4 minutes to come bacvk anyhow by the time the boy and his mum arrived the dog had died in my arms.

I stayed for a while but the police still adnt arrived. I went to the flat to see the boy and his mum and god knows why but I kept on apologising even thought I just stopped to help.

My moan, is we are humans, they are defensless animals, how could anyone hit an animal and then drive off.

That poor boy is going to have that memory for ever, seeing his dog being runover twice!.

I came home had a bath and a cry.

and i got a puncture saturday and another one the way home tonight

My god, thats awful, and I have a few tears at the thought of that poor dog suffering.
I hope once the boy and his mum have had time to get over the shock they will appreciate that you tried to help. Good on the ambulance bloke for trying to help too.

Hopefully for as many people as there are who left the cat & dog to die there are twice as many like you who would stop to help. It must have been deeply upsetting, I know I would have been a wreck & not as calm & helpful as you.
I was a bit upset but also touched the other day when a car suddenly stopped in front of us as a white van had stopped in the middle of the road in front of him with it's hazard lights on. We were wondering what was going on when a big bloke looking very upset got back into the van & pulled over, he'd knocked down a squirrel & had got out to see if it was dead (it was).

Isn't it a criminal offence not to stop?

Sounds like a very traumatic episode (or three) for you. Let's only hope the guy who didn't stop pays the price, what goes around comes around.

Some people are just Rotten through and through NSB, for people just to walk past and not help is despicable, lets hope it never happens to one of there beloved pet's, hat's off to you and the Ambulance man for showing compassion for these poor animals.

Cant understand people who dont stop. I even go back to pick up stunned birds and put them somewhere safe. This just beggers belief and I feel so sorry for you NSB having to deal with it when it was nothing to do with you, well done you.
Ive only ever run over a rabbit and hit two deer, both of which came out smack in front of me. The rabbit was dead, and I cried, but one deer came round and legged it. Saw it a few weeks later (recognised it by the patch of hair missing off its back) luckily full of life. the second deer was a big Red, I tried to avoid it but couldn't and the impact killed it outright and spun my car off the road and down an embankment, writeing it off. The police officer who came out to mark my car as 'accident aware' couldn't believe I got away with scratches and shock.

OMG how awful for you and that poor little boy. He must be traumatised. I can't understand some people it's not like you were asking them to stop a fight. Your actions show that there are some decent people about . Just checked with my eldest and she says it's no longer an offence to not report hitting a dog.

Well done NSB. What an awful thing to experience. But, because you are you you did the right thing. Just imagine the torment you would now be suffering if you too had passed by.
