  • please advise minced beef problem

so today i went to my local spar shop and bought some stuff along with the other stuff i bought a pack of minced beef and when i got home started making dinner pretty normal stuff

however i found 2 small pieces of glass in the minced beef i took them out and threw away the meat put the packaging into the recycling

we were really annoyed about it but just pulled some chicken out of the freezer and carried on

my wife and i have been having a clear out and she was due to do a tip run today (planned all week) as the car was loaded we threw some bin bags into the boot to go to the tip too

ok so the story is the minced beef was in one of the bags that has gone to the tip however i still have the glass and the packaging

im not sure as to forget about it, take it to the shop or write off to the spar head office

what should i do or what would you do?

Darcy, I would go back to the shop, not just because you want your money back, but if they have glass in mince, they may need to check their other stock and factory that produces it. Someone may not be as vigilant as you, and could be hurt!!

To the shop ASAP to report the problem. Take pics of glass and packaging before you go for your records.

You had a lucky escape someone else might not be that lucky.

Agreed ^^^^ tell the shop but also tell Spar Head Office SPAR (UK) Limited - Contact Us in case the local Spar doesn't take prompt action. Without wishing to be alarmist, this could be life threatening so something should be done ASAP. Good job you spotted it Darcy!

me agree to,head office as well, and tell the local store you have done so,lay it on the line,if anyone gets hurt or worse, plus,it's ultimatley the people who done the meat and packaging in the first place, wonder if they will tell you who, good job you were vigilant, have you got a pic of the bits and size reference,as once they got hold of the offending bits you lost your back up,and are they going to do a product recall on that particular batch,

Yes take everything you have. Spar are going to want as much info as possible in order to take action.

As far as I know they are a reputable company and they will want this stopped as soon as possible.

If we think about it the problem must be at the packaging plant, sounds like a piece of machinery as gone t*ts up. There is every chance that there are further potentially life threatening packages out there and they will want them of the shelves ASAP.

Broken glass in the gut is a real problem as it does not show up on X-rays.

Forgot to say, make sure your local branch knows you have contacted head office as this will put a 'pointy stick' in exactly the right place.

I used to work in the head office on one of the BIG names and rest assured that they really do want to know. You're not making a fuss about nothing, it's really dangerous. Lucky you spotted the glass!

so i took the packaging back this morning along with the glass i felt awful as the store manager was more than apoligetic

i know that the glass was nothing really to do with her yet she seemed to feel personally responsible

i had to enclose all of my details along with my mobile number

i was given a refund and was told that head office will be intouch

all products were removed from the shelf and she said that she has sent emails out explaining the situation

Brillient, I am glad that they are acting quickly.

Well done Darcy - I know it can be difficult to take things back.
