  • Photography - Witches - East Mids

    Hi all

I am in the middle of a Photography A level, and enjoying every minute.

My next project is about the lies that we tell children and I'm focusing on 'the marriage ideal', 'fairies', and 'witches'. Mainly because they are 3 of the most potent female ideals/archetypes and this is about women [sorry guys - you're all ill with man flu anyway].

The main thrust is to look at the myths surrounding each - and I need a real witch! It would be a nonsense to hire a model - tis a real one i want.

I'm not judging - and I don't want to show an alternative to the myth - more of a slice of reality.

I'm aiming for a feminist but feminine slant...

Anyone got any ideas where to find a witch?...This is a genuine request.

I've got a fairy [my niece] and I'm using Barbie for the marriage ideal...and I really would like a real witch to complete the trilogy.

Apologies if you think I'm off my rocker - but subverting feminine characterisation and ideals is a long running theme of mine, along with the pretty flowers...

I think there are a few witchy ladies on this forum.
What a very interesting project, good luck!

Are you doing things like they story of Ginny Greenteeth? She is a water-sprite. Used to keep me and other Manchester children away from the 'cuts' (canals) or ponds. "Don't go near the water, Ginny Greenteeth will get you!"

I'm sure you'll get volunteers from here!

Thanks Fiona - it is quite hard explaining it to models and such like...so it is sometimes easier with toys [kids toys...].

Nicos - have PM-ed you back.

well I am a bit far away from you to help zazen999 , but good luck finding a local witch to help with the project, there are plenty of us about, but we don't exactly advertise.
one place you could check is the pagan federation, this is online and sections are dvided by area, you could find your local pagfed rep and send them an email with your enquiry?

Hi, Zazzen, as Bride says we don't usually advertize. Is South Yorks too far? I know of a group here who are not too adverse to publicity. I can put you in touch, but can't say if they'll help.

                        PS I've PMd you.

Thanks for those, and other PM-ed suggestions...I thought that real witches weren't exactly going to advertise, which is why I thought you good people on here would have ideas.

Tammy has also given me a couple of ideas...so i'm going to look at all options and see what comes up...

Thank you all so much for the pointers...you all rock.

Google her Zazen. You'll also get regional variations, Jenny Greenteeth for example. I think she's Lancs/Derbyshire/Nott/Potteries sort of area.
