Photo resizing

You can use an online tool to do it, Free Online Image Resizer - Photo & Picture Resize & Crop - if you didn't want to mess around.. or just resize the image to an acceptable size for the forum.

Depending where you upload the photos to, you may need to think about reducing the filesize even more so. I personally use googles free image storage, picasaweb - picasaweb.google.com

Edit: or you could create smaller sized photos via your cameras settings

Thanks peeps, I have a photo program on the putor which allows me to reduce the size by mil's but have no knowledge of reducing the file size etc. Will go and have a look at your suggestions and see if I can get my head round it.

Reducing the pixel size is what you need to do. Not sure what the limit is for this forum, but try 900x600 for starters.

i just use microsoft picture manager - click on edit and click on web page size - and it reduces the size but not the quality - give it a go! i too had your problem when i bought a 10MP camera and couldnt upload them due to the fiel being too big - but after doin some research i found the above method to be the easiest and quickist to use.

The camera settings will do the trick......they will allow you to take pics of up to 12 mega pix. But much smaller which will allow uploads without resizing.

Yep, mine has settings of 0.3mp, 2mp, 3mp, 6mp normal and 6mp fine.

The greater the amount of pixels, the larger the image.

A lot of cameras are sold on the back of their big numbers, because bigger is better, right? Erm...no, not really.
I mean if you want to zoom the image in on screen to carry out some techy photo editing stuff, then yeah, bigger is better up until you've finished messing around with it, because it allows you to see detail when zoomed right in - rather than just seeing a load of boxy pixels, but for viewing the end product those big numbers don't mean diddly.
A computer monitor with a display of 1920x1080 pixels (1080p, otherwise known as High Definition) has a total of 2,073,600 pixels, therefore, it can only display images at 100% (full size) up to around 2 megapixels in size.

For forum images the 0.3mp setting is quite adequate.

I use the same as Matt, if you already have Microsoft Office then office picture manager is a doddle to use. Just resize to the format you want.

I use this if batch processing too - it will resize all the images in a folder if you ask it to and save them as new images. Faster than doing each one individually. Other programs may also offer this functionality.

Ok I have fired up said camera for the first time and I can reduce the file size to 2mp would this be OK on the forum?

To give you a rough indication, this image...

...is roughly 1/7th of a megapixel, or 147742 pixels.
